Ok I have tried not to ask this question... but can't hold off any longer. I have had tinnitus for 5 months now.

It's safe to say it's permanent?

I am not sure anyone can tell you that.....Obviously the longer it goes the more unknown it gets.

Mine started on Jan 7 2018 and my neurologist still said it's early.

Nobody can tell, and perhaps it's a good thing because it's a double edged sword.

I’m 8 months in and it’s still able to bug me a lot. That being said, it has decreased a lot since it started. Either it has actually gone down or I’ve habituated to it more. (I can’t tell which, and aren’t those two things the same anyway?)

Recently I’ve had some spikes from some mildly loud events, and I’m beginning to see that what people say about “safe” volume levels goes out the window when you have T. Maybe it won’t cause hearing loss if it’s under 85db or whatever the threshold is, but it may still increase your T ringing.

My advice is the same as the advice I’ve been given by others: keep your ears protected whenever you feel things are getting loud and carry earplugs with you when you plan on going to louder places.(or maybe just carry them with you always)

Of course, I’m only with 8 months experience so take what I say with a grain of salt since I too am still learning. You will find many experienced people giving smart, solid advice on this forum.
      All the best.

No. I had T for more than seven years and I have got rid of it. Don’t ever give up.

like everyone said impossible to tell, T is pretty unpredictable... it can take months or years but can heal over time

i wish scientist understood the mechanism of what causes tinnitus to go away on it's own, Do the neurons decide to stop overactive firing. who knows?
