      Hi all,

I read in a thread yesterday that somebody used "triple protection" while firing a gun. Does anyone know what "triple protection" is?

I'm pretty sure they meant to say "double protection".
Even at double protection, you max out once you hit certain number of blocked out decibels (I believe it is somewhere in the 40 dB range), meaning that any additional protection will not protect you any more past that number.

"Triple hearing protection combines the conventional double hearing protection offered by two passive hearing protectors (ear muffs over ear plugs) with an ANR hearing protection component enclosed in the tip of the ear plugs."

I've read about people putting silicon ear plugs in when they already have foam ones there. Sounds pretty dangerous to me.

Wouldn't plugs with ANR muffs also meet this criteria?

Also, if you only get 4-5 dB extra protection from the 2nd form of protection, I wonder if you really get anything at all from the 3rd form.
