Where Is Your Dream Destination and Why?

Let me start with mine: Tromso, Norway because its uniqueness and landscape fascinates me.

 

I've been to Tromso, many years ago.

Right now my dream destination would be to be at home with my kids, but i am many miles from there at the moment.

 

Been in Tromsoe (Tromsø) many A time. Never seen a more beautiful aurora borealis.

As I'm feeling rather bad right now, I don't got an dream destination other than just standing on a mountain, in total darkness, watching the stars without this thing in my head. Some wolfs in the background howling.. Maby in this dream I finally have a dog.. Like.. A Samoyed.. Protecting me.

Did a part of a Sea Ice Field School in Tromsø in Summer of 2017 at University of Tromsø. Was there during the "Midnight Sun" period with 24-hour daylight and no black out curtains. Much prefer Polar Night instead, but stumbling out of a bar in Tromsø after midnight when the sun is still shining and the beers cost an equivalent of $20-30 USD each is a truly surreal experience.

If you ever go to Tromsø, try to make your way to Longyearbyen or Ny-Ålesund in Svalbärd. That is an interesting place as well.

Agree with @MrE - Everyone should see the Aurora Borealis at least once in their life. The view from Greenland and the Canadian Arctic is not bad either.

 

Iceland is as scenic as it gets.

Egypt,

I have always wanted to travel there, hopefully I get there one day.... I did watch a documentary on Iceland, it does look very scenic.

 

Australia! When I can get used to the idea of such a long flight!

In the meantime… the Lofoten Islands in Norway.

I already live in the best place (snowy woods of the NE); any time I have to leave home I am grumpy about it.

 

Actually I tell a lie. I didn't go to Tromso, I went to Narvik. Not too far away.

I have been many places and like we have all heard, many times, "There's no place like home."

Living amongst the vineyards and rolling hills, while enjoying all four seasons, there is nowhere quite as beautiful as my home.

 

I can attest to that. Hawaii is great also as far as another extreme goes.

As we head into autumn, Vermont near me is very beautiful.

 

I've been twice. Unfortunately I would never go again. I did get to the more touristy resort type of place though.

 

Nowhere really. London had previously been my dream destination and I've been there several times.

Otherwise, I like beaches and places with nice ocean views.

 

Georgia. Buy the wood and lake. Hiking.

Was the touristy resort place you visited Sharm El Sheikh? I really would like to visit Cairo for the Museum and of course to visit the pyramids and sphinx... Did you travel there before all the troubles started?
It has had a warning by our government for years now to reconsider your need to travel to Egypt...

Pretty much the entire East Coast of the U.S. These were all road trips, the best way to see it all, in my opinion.

Vancouver Island, actually took the train from Toronto to the West Coast twice, now there's a beautiful trip. Train travel is good for the soul, there's just something about falling asleep to the sound of the train.

 

I am surprised that you were happy to return home from all of those places and especially from Spain and France.

My mindset regarding travel seems to be the opposite of your mindset. I always say that the worst day during a trip (e.g., a rainy day, or a day where all of one's plans ended up being ruined because of a strike or because of museums closing earlier than one expected) is still better than the best day one can have at home.

 

We do seem to have opposite mindsets, Bill.

This is all good, I will always consider you a friend. Not everyone has to agree with me, at least not all the time, lol.

I enjoy my home. A lot of time, love and work went into making it a comfortable and inviting place to be. That's not to say I don't like to travel, it's just that coming home after a long trip, putting the key in the lock, opening the front door and walking into the living room always feels better than walking into any hotel, motel or resort I've ever stayed at.

Do you have a list of places you have visited? Care to share?

 

Depends on the destination. I finally went to NYC in August and was not charmed by anything other than the sea lions in Central Park and the Aquarium at Coney Island.

 

I haven't invested anything into my home (I've lived here for over 10 years). Having to work on home improvement/maintenance projects would make my time here unbearable. You stop noticing problems after a while (as you get used to them), and to me that is a preferable solution to fixing the problems.

 

Everybody wants to visit @JohnAdams because the words got out about him making the best scones ever.

Just between me and you Bill I know his secret ingredient...

emmalee, you have visited some great places, I also love Madrid and Barcelona, I caught the high speed train between the two cities.

Morocco has been on my list of places to visit for some years now, just like Egypt.

 

I see. Do you not like where you are living Bill, or do you just not like to do home improvements?

 

I have also taken the train between Madrid and Barcelona, Star. Train travel has always been one of my favorite ways to explore, there's just something about it.

Yes, I went there with my family before any of the troubles. For me Egypt and many other countries are simply too dangerous to travel too now.

I didn't really like the local people i encountered. Egypt seems to be a very macho culture, and it wasn't for me. But maybe the people will be different in other places.
