Hi, my name's Rick, and I've had tinnitus and hyperacusis for a little over two years. Around May of this year, I started noticing that my tinnitus would really act up whenever I orgasmed, whether from sex or masturbation. Yes, I know it's kind of embarrassing, but we're all adults here. It also starts flaring up just from getting aroused, and I don't even mean having an erection. That never used to happen, but ever since the first time it did, my tinnitus has been getting worse.
And I don't mean a temporary spike. I'm talking about what seems like permanent damage, for whatever reason, every time I orgasm.
I used to have a healthy sex life, around two to four times a week, whether sex or masturbation. But ever since May, every time I orgasmed, I'd wake up the next day feeling awful—head burning, ears aching, and the pitch of my tinnitus a little louder. I thought it might go away on its own, but it never did. And each time I did it again, it just got worse.
So I tried to stop. I figured it had to be the orgasming. What else could it have been? I tried spacing things out, thinking if I didn't do it too often, maybe it would calm down. I went two weeks—still made it worse. I went one month—more damage.
But I'm not a monk. I'm human. I have needs, and it's hard. I can hold out for a while, but eventually it builds up, and I have to take care of it. It sucks. It's like my body is pushing me to do something my tinnitus and hyperacusis are actively punishing me for.
My tinnitus has increased so many times and picked up new tones because of this. It has also started becoming reactive to sound, which is affecting me badly. What the hell is going on?
I read a post from a woman who said she masturbated 60 times a day, which is wild, and she mentioned that her tinnitus was getting worse from it too. So I'm wondering, does anyone know why this might be happening?
I also read that after orgasm, the brain releases a cocktail of different chemicals. I'm thinking maybe that has something to do with it, but I have no idea. I went to a doctor and an ENT, and neither of them had a clue. Honestly, they were useless, so I don't even know where to go from here.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
