Worried About Loud Traffic: Does Covering My Ears with My Fingers Protect My Hearing?

I live in a really loud city. Sometimes I don’t have my earplugs in because I forget, or because I’m new to bike riding and want to make sure I can hear properly. But there are some insanely loud car engines that blast by, along with motorcyclists whose bikes are unbelievably noisy. It really...

    Tinnitus from Long-Term Stress

Good news! :) Yesterday, 11 days after onset, I had a new audiogram, and my hearing is restored. There are a few small 5 dB differences, but I was told that will improve with time. The only interesting thing I have to deal with now is distorted sound—everything sounds metallic. But that should...

I hear you, but it is what it is. You won't get the answers needed, and you certainly won't feel any better, by asking yourself these questions (in frustration and agony) over and over again. There is no point in comparing yourself with others. It is human to do so, I know, but its possible to...

A Short Relief from Tinnitus Followed by Relapse Triggered by Rain Noise

Update: The audiologist tested my ears and found some mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss, which isn’t unexpected given my age (48). Apart from that, my hearing levels were within normal limits in both ears. He also noted that my right eardrum, the ear that’s been ringing, was somewhat...

Now I can stay in bed all night, although I wake up at 4am every morning like clockwork and can't go back to sleep, no matter how much I try to relax and just accept that the tinnitus is there. I don't think I ever go into deep sleep. It's very light and tinnitus often makes its way into my...

I'm the same, very careful about how I lay my ears on the pillow. I try to avoid pulling, stretching or crushing. I put a hand or a blanket under my chin to try to lift my head a little. I sleep much better than I was in May or June. I pretty much was getting 2 or 3 hours then. Then I would...

I'm always conscious about how I lay on my pillow when I go to sleep. I'm paranoid about my ears closing up as I believe it might cause some harm for some reason or another. Neosensory — Bimodal Stimulation Device for Tinnitus: Any Reviews? A Scam or Not?

Yes, I've found it useful as a masking/distraction device. It obviously doesn't mask anything as it is not sound, and for the record, I have never found any sound masker that could mask my tinnitus even a little bit, but it does work for me as a soother, a distractor away from the tinnitus...
