Listening to Music Is My Dying Passion: Do I Risk Making My Mild Tinnitus Worse?

No form of headphones/earbuds are safe including noise cancelling ones, even if you use the best hearing protection in the world with them. You are taking a risk and if your tinnitus gets worse then you will learn, by that time it'll be too late. Be smart and forget headphones and listen through...

    Flying & Tinnitus

    Good Quality, Slick Safety Earmuffs

I am generally weary of noise cancelling devices because the way they work is to play sounds that are inverted waveforms of the external sounds.. if the cancelling isn't perfect it seems like it could still be blasting sound right in your ear

My Tinnitus Spiked After a 2-Hour Road Trip in an Electric Car

I don't think it's the sound of the electric car or it being electric will help as the road noise would be more than an engine in a regular one. I bought a Lexus and it is 50 dB driving under 40 mph. You might be like me and reactive to the vibration from the tires on the road. So the fact that...

Driving Car with Earplugs — Is This Necessary or Am I Being Overprotective?

Sure thing, Bill. Keep in mind that the noise-cancelling works best for continuous lower-frequency sounds. And it won't offer protection from impulse sounds. This is because the mic has to record the sound then the processor has to generate an anti-sound and this takes time.

Same here. I would always work/sleep with silence (I'd wear noise cancelling headphones at work for example) as sound would distract me and prevent me from focusing.

I have been trying to protect my ears as much as possible, but it's simply IMPOSSIBLE to protect them from every loud sound. Onset of Tinnitus After Using Noise Cancelling Headphones

I use Bose ANC headphones (Quiet Comfort) regularly and haven't noticed any change in my T. When I don't play anything in them and just use the noise cancelling feature, T seems louder, which I attribute to the lack of other sounds drowning it (it's the same as when I plug my ear).

This points something I've been wondering about: has anyone found a safe way to listen to podcasts while jogging? Onset of Tinnitus After Using Noise Cancelling Headphones

Noise cancelling headphones will not make tinnitus worse unless ofcourse you pump some music through them. I've been using them for about two years with no change in tinnitus, I only use them without music to block out noise in airplanes and other noise places and they work great.
