I have to have this procedure in the morning. After having had several spikes recently, I am very wary of doing anything new and out of the ordinary.

Does anyone here have any experience with a barium swallow? Can this cause more or affect my tinnitus in any way? Please only replies if it happened to you, and no friend of my friend etc stories. I need some real facts as I need to get this done, but I am very apprehensive about this.

It is not on the list of ototoxic medications.

I had a barium swallow test before tinnitus, so I'm not sure. But I do know that it doesn't exactly taste very nice. I hope the procedure goes well for you and that everything is okay!

Just an update for everyone who has to have this procedure in the future and is anxious about it in regard to their tinnitus. Everything went well, and for me it had no adverse reaction on my tinnitus. :)

Thank you for updating! That is reassuring since I think that's a test I'll have to repeat in the future.

No problem at all. The more collective information there is on here about medicines and treatments, the better people can be informed before taking something or having to have a certain thing done.

I agree! And I feel too often we only post about bad reactions, so it's always nice when someone posts something they experienced that did not cause a spike.

I might need to have one. I read that it can cause tinnitus so I'm worried it will increase my tinnitus. I'm glad it worked out okay for you @jer

Has anyone else had this? :( I'm worried.

Barium is quite inert, and the test is not noisy. It should really have no effect on tinnitus.
