I just heard about the ingesting of castor oil to help tinnitus.

      Has anyone tried this?

A quick Google and I'm getting a bottle in the morning and will give it a try. I can't believe in all the searching I have done that I never came across this. I'm a little skeptical but it's cheap and easy and there's nothing to lose by trying it.

Sounds like a plan. Like you alluded; it’s not going to cost a fortune! I remember some family members swearing by it “back in the day”. Never truly understood why.. hmmm

I've been reading and many articles say to place a few drops in each ear. Not many say to ingest. Looks like I need to make a trip to the Vitamin Shop for some food grade Castor Oil suitable to take orally as well as drop in the ear.
Anyone else have any experience with Castor Oil?

Make sure it's expeller or cold pressed... You definitely don't want hexane floating around inside of your ear. Very curious to see the results, I'm starting to feel like if there's anything natural that can greatly improve tinnitus, it's probably going to have to be applied locally because of the poor circulation in the ear.

Got a bottle and did a couple drops in each ear, need to continue this for at least a month. Time will tell, stay tuned for updates.

Yes, the threatment of placing it inside your ear has been around for a while. I never tried it as I’m personally leery of putting anything in my ears.
But I “thought” I read a quick article about drinking it for Tinnitus relief.
Of course, now I can’t find it, so I might have been hallucinating, which is why I asked. LOL

I found a few write-ups on swallowing Castor oil but I have a hard time seeing it get to where it's going to have the greatest effect. Most recommend drops in the ears and that's what I'm going with. Day two here, it's going to be a while to see what effect it will have. Found it in the local CVS and it is edible if that's the way you want to go, about 7 bucks for the little bottle.

I think I mentioned this in another post but I've given it up, the oil was causing me problems with my hearing aids. I also believe the idea behind the use of Castor oil might be to loosen up any impacted wax if wax is your source of tinnitus. That's not me, I've had ENT's comment on the complete lack of wax in my ears. So that's it for the oil.

I agree; I personally can’t put anything in my ears due to my hearing aids as well.

My post was in reference to the purported use of ingesting/drinking castor oil. I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried it.

Doesn’t castor oil have a laxative effect when ingested?

      CricketEars,
Good question; maybe. That's why I was asking if anyone tried it. But I guess no one has.

I don't have personal experience with that but a quick internet search says yes.

      Ambassador,

Yes, I thank you. But that's exactly why I posted the question here to begin with.

I was wondering if one of my fellow "Tinnitus Talk" members had done this. As you know, on the internet, you never really know if what's being said is accurate or even the truth. I trust the people on here.

I wear bilateral hearing aids, so would never put it in my ears, but would consider ingesting it if its been done before. But now, I don't think I'll chance it.

Anyway, I ordered a bottle of organic CBD oil, which I will place under my tongue to see if it helps with my T spiking. In NY, its legal for several issues. My spiking is usually caused by unwarranted anxiety and I don't want to take benzos any longer. So, we'll see.

I was responding to the question about Castor oils laxative effect, apparently it's been used for thousands of years for that. I haven't found enough data to support ingesting it for tinnitus.

I am interested in the CBD oil, apparently it's legal everywhere these days as long as there's no THC in it. Please keep us updated.

I know the anxiety problem well and am pretty sure that's what gets me in these spikes.

      Ambassador,

Oh, ok; sorry I thought you were responding to me. Anyway, the last thing I want or need is a laxative side-effect, I have enough issues. LOL

I should be getting the CBD oil soon; they sent me a message that's it been shipped. Very excited to see if it helps. Will keep in touch about it. Probably will start a new conversation about it.

Warm Castor Oil packs are great for chronic pain issues. It is absorbed into the skin and helps with inflamation.

I don't think I would survive taking a tablespoon of it!!

I guess you could try the warm castor oil pack on the back of the neck? Hum.

I've seen articles regarding both injesting and putting castor oil in your ears, I've also seen articles about rubbing sesame oil around the outside of your ears.

I haven't tried any of these yet, but I think I'll try injesting castor oil it vs putting it in my ears. I don't remember the exact amount - I'll try to find the article again and report it.

6-8 drops of cold press castor oil ingested, 1x a day. Don't use more than that or you'll probably regret it. I did this for 3 weeks at the request of my wife. The third week, my T significantly reduced all week. In fact, I felt so good I stopped taking the castor oil. T came back the following week at full force. I started it up again, same regimen. The first two weeks I noticed no change, but on the 3rd week it's much milder and more tolerable than normal. I honestly don't know for a fact if it's the castor oil, but I'll keep on it and see what happens.

I put the 6-8 drops on an english muffin or a tortilla chip before I head to work in the morning. It's quick and painless. =)

I stopped taking castor oil a while back. I don’t think it was doing anything significant for my T. Can’t hurt to try though.

After the castor oil experiment I tried a TENS unit. That did alter my T momentarily, but it always returns to baseline quickly.
