@OnceUponaTime Those are awesome. We just found if we used other types of elastics it's working out better. Now I just need to make some that fit my face better! My jaw line is thwarting me!

What channel on Roku is Without a Trace on? Edit: NM my mind just started working. :ROFL:

They have some good stuff there. You should check it out. I watched Mythica : A Quest for Heroes, last night. Watching fantasy now is better than the reality we are living. :wacky::confused:

I don't know whether I should make a new thread about this, but how do you explain tinnitus to children? I don't have my own, probably won't ever :cry:, but I have a goddaughter, who is 11, and lots of my friends have small children. I want to be part of their lives, but right now I am still in the "very afraid to even go out of the house" phase of my tinnitus. I would like to organize programs with my GD, but I feel almost disabled (I don't mean any disrespect), always on edge about loud sounds, verging on being paranoid about sounds.

Sorry to hear about your struggles, Kristzi. We've all been there, that's for sure. If I were you, I'd be very careful about where you go with them. Outdoor playdates? Probably fine. Indoor playtime? Maybe not the best idea depending on how rowdy they can be. Explain to your goddaughter (or have her parents explain to her.) that she should be quiet and not loud around you, because you don't like like loud sounds.

If they get loud, gently and politely hush and remind them. You don't need to explain the tinnitus to them I think. But if you want, say you have crickets in your ears, or compare to a scene in an action movie where an exlplosion happens and there's a big eeeee going on. (Assuming of course that your goddaughter has such interest in such films.)

To make you feel a bit safer, I also think you should download a sound measurer on your phone. (I use Sound Meter.) It probably won't be accurate, but it'll give you a basic idea.

Also, keep earplugs with you at all times. I use 20 dB musician's plugs because they're reusable and fit in my ear better than foam plugs. But I'm considering getting custom plugs aswell.

To be honest, I already do most of these precautions, wearing earplugs/earmuffs, having three different kind of sound meters on my phone. (Yeah, I'm aware that I'm verging on paranoia, but during lockdown my baseline went down, but still horribly reactive, nice reminder that I'll never be out of the woods. )

She is very intelligent and compassionate, but even adults think I'm crazy and I have a mental health condition, not a physical problem, so it's hard to know how to communicate this to children.

@ASilverLight Same. I know this is catastrophic thinking, but I am kind of trying to accept that I won't have children and my life has changed for good, but I'm hopeful that my sibling has a happier life ahead of her than me, and if she has children I want to help so much, but I'm really afraid of loud sounds.

Please wear a mask when you go into a crowded shop. So I did, mask on, glasses on so I can see, hearing aids in. Out to the car with shopping, remove gloves, pull mask off, left hearing aid gets hung up in mask falls out. Well FUCK I can't find the aid anywhere on the ground, on knees looking 5 minutes, hearing aids the same colour as the stones. Can't find it. Not under the car, just disappeared.

So I got up and said to the wife 'there goes a thousand euros.'

So well, as I stood there more pissed about the damn mask than the hearing aid, I noticed a slight bulge in my shirt pocket.

No need to go any further with the story.

Yeah, the masks are an adjustment. I learned to not wear any of my earrings in no matter how "safe" I think they are. Just need to remember to make sure none of the holes grow shut. So I wear my earrings in at home and take them out for going grocery shopping!

The glasses fog over is interesting. Most of the time I can ignore it.

Check his latest posts? IIRC, he posted that he was leaving. I don't recall if it was a momentary hiatus or longer. I consider my memory ruined by constant ringing but I pretty sure about that.
