My tinnitus began decades ago, sometime in the early 1990s. Back then, I was completely dismissed by the medical establishment in my community, so I learned to manage it on my own. I have multiple pitches, along with whooshing and a sense of fullness, and the intensity of each symptom varies over time.
In 2020, the noise level increased to an intensity I had never experienced before. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being where you cannot hear anything other than the tinnitus, I am now often at a 7. I have no hearing loss on standard auditory tests, and my MRI showed nothing unusual. I use a Signia hearing aid with masking when I can, and otherwise I rely on cognitive behavioral therapy. Even so, it remains very disruptive to my sleep and mood.
I have tried supplements, acupuncture, and many other things. As you know, science does not yet seem to have clear answers, and no one in my local community has any real expertise with this condition. There is also no research university or hospital nearby that could offer advanced help.
