My tinnitus started seven months ago.

After numerous doctors appointments I was finally seen by an ENT at my local hospital. After only being in the room with the doctor for five minutes I felt so let down and not listened to. I had no tests done and no real help and advice given.

I was wondering if anyone has had any tests when they go to an ENT appointment? Any advice would be appreciated.

Get a hearing test up to 16khz, not the standard 8khz, to test for hearing loss and have them look inside your ears for any wax build up that needs to be removed.

@Ravhyhow ,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
ENT look for problems but will offer a MRI if needed.
Audiology look into hearingloss and tinnitus and ways to help you cope.

love glynis

Very common complaint.

The TRI flowchart remains the best resource there is:

Any advice would be appreciated.
Consider your patient history as a reservoir of knowledge as to what might have caused your tinnitus (e.g. noise exposure, ototoxic medication, illness). Remember that noise exposure is the most common culprit.

Good luck.

Hello Ravhyhow,

I know appointments with ENTs can be very disappointing, my first one was like that !

In fact, they cannot do anything because they just don't know how to treat Tinnitus... But to be honest, too often they have not enough compassion for people suffering with Tinnitus ! This is this point in particular who is the worst one for me !

Maybe you can try to find one who can listen to you about your needs to make tests like the one for hearing loss...
