I would love to have a coffee with you and talk film, I like your choices. I love film from all over the world, for quotes off the top my head I might go to Samuel Jackson in Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, when he quotes from the Bible before filling that hapless teenager with lead.

The Italian American Hollywood mythical projection of life was so influential to me as a kid. I remember walking into a bank as a kid with my mom and thinking about those slick looking dudes in suits etc. The reality (I like true crime as well) was the gangsters were often fat, disheveled, stingy and nothing like the Hollywood portrayals.

The Godfather trilogy was freaking awesome and epic, Goodfellas kicked ass as well. If you have time check out the gangsters involved in The Real French Connection, great movie, where they brought dope over from Marce in France. They were a bunch of bums, nothing like the handsome dudes on the big screen.

I am pretty chill now, but my aesthetic as a man is still modeled after those gangsters on the big screen.

Pulp Fiction (1994) - some of the best dialogue you’ll ever see in a film. The non-linear storytelling and how it structures the narrative through different perspectives is still one of the best aspects of the film. Whenever you think of the 1990s, Pulp Fiction will always be mentioned. It’s the living embodiment of the 90s era.

A great quote from the Bible, check out the Song of Solomon - maybe the first love poem from the old testament. I am not religious but like many artists can draw from these stories for artistic inspiration.

When Al Pacino's Michael killed his brother Fredo, it was like Caine and Abel.

Anyways, you should check out Dog Day Afternoon, which is what put Al Pacino on the map, the whole movie takes place in a Bank, a hostage situation. The movie is great.

The Godfather and Casino were inspired by Mario Puzo's books.

Don't get me started on Scorsese and Mean Streets and Taxi driver.

Tarantino I rate as the best American Director of my generation, hands down. I'm 54 now. The guy is such a quirky genius, growing up in a video store watching black exploitation films, Japanese masters like Kurasawa and all kinds of shlock B films. He is an absolute sticker about his dialogue and direction. He considers his dialogue to be poetry. His scripts are amazing and Inglourious Basterds and Django unchained were so cathartic, Every Jew, Gypsy or African Americans dream of pay back that never happened. Django was just brutal and an honest depiction of slavery. His films are so entertaining and the Hateful 8 was awesome, reaching a blood curdling crescendo. Reservoir Dogs and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood were actually my least favorite. Jacky Brown was a great love story.

John Cassavetes, a 60s director, in contrast to Tarantino, encouraged his actors to adlib and improvise much like the Jazz of the day. He made a film called Cuba, which is pretty cool and heart breaking. Black Orpheus, based on the story of Orpheus and Euridice was made in 1959 and is freaking unbelievable. I digress, love stories.

I am a gluten for Comedy, and would recommend Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein or History of the World. "It's good to be the King" is a quote that comes to mind from History of the World.

I would love your opinion and hope you can check out some of these films.

Science Fiction is also one of my favorite genres.

These are all brilliant films, especially Young Frankenstein. Comedy film are indeed great.

I watched My Cousin Vinny (1991) recently and it still cracks me up. It’s still the most accurate depiction of US courtroom procedures and trial.

Great genre as well. Off the top of my head, John Carpenter’s The Thing remains timeless. Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey was ahead of its time.

Kubrick's 2001 is freaking amazing. " Dave, Dave " haunting when Howel the computer starts messing with him. The end of the movie is so psychedelic and transcendent. A true masterpiece.
Event Horizon is an overlooked but good sci film with Larry Fishburn and Sam Neill, they loose their minds on a space ship? I really enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy and though the sound track was great.
