Is It Possible for Hearing Loss (a 30 dB Drop After a Loud Concert) to Be Back to Normal Later?

Can hearing loss of 30 dB after a loud concert be back to normal after 6 months for example? Is it possible that temporary hearing loss be back to normal and it takes time to heal?

Mick I guess nothing is impossible so lets hope you get some improvement. Maybe someone else can reply with their experiences. However from my reading temporary threshold shift usually improves within a day or so. After that I'm not so sure. I too went to a concert and had hearing loss the next day. It hasn't improved.

Yes, it's possible to have a temporary threshold shift that goes back to normal after a while.

@MickV my brother was basically deaf on one side after a Mastodon show; most of his hearing came back but it took a year.

Then he continued to go to shows with no protection for fifteen years, and now his hearing is shit which he says is *fine* because now he can go to shows and they don't seem too loud >.<

30db loss but at which frequency though ?

The higher frequncies get whacked easily as there is far less cells above 8khz - I read that it's only 5%

I would be more concerned with a 30 Db loss at 4khz but this can recover to an extent after a while provided you protect your ears

I had - 40 Db at 4khz and this moved to -25 Db 6 months later but I made sure to protect my ears

That’s insane. I hope my body can somehow make a similar recovery in the coming months.

That does not sound too bad - unless you are very young

Can you bring more information about his recovery? Like other symptoms he had, and recovered from them through the year? Most of the ENTs told me that when you lost some hearing due to acoustic trauma and it will not come back in few days, it is lost forever.

Did you get prednisone after you lost hearing?
