I wonder if these devices would be applicable for those of us who can't really hear our tinnitus frequency. Like me, my central tinnitus frequency is right at the edge of my hearing, at about 14 kHz, and I would need high volumes to hear a tone of that frequency well...

Do you know what exactly happened?

Like why was it pulled from the market, why was a peer-reviewed publication never published, and is the current device any different from the device that was released back then?

I want to try some of these treatments.

I'm really confused. There are a lot of devices in development but nothing truly available.

I'm doing sound therapy once a week, but they only make me hear white noise for half an hour.

To make things worse: I'm Argentine.

That's waaaay too much for my hyperacusis.

Too bad :( oh well. Didn't put much hope in it anyway.

They play a 70 dB noise? That seems pretty loud. I wonder how that will work out for people because some people have said that listening to headphones even at low levels made their tinnitus worse.

I assume people don't want to reduce and worsen their tinnitus at the same time.

I think 40-45 dB would have been more than alright as my hyperacusis is not severe, but 70 dB is a big NO-GO with my degree of hyperacusis and I am afraid there would be a great chance it would make it even worse than it is now.

Although I do not know how loud the treatment sounds are, I do know that Neuromod is claiming greater symptom reductions for individuals with hyperacusis.

They are showing forty something percent reductions for average tinnitus patients (in scores) and low to mid fifty something reductions for patients with tinnitus and hyperacusis.

I don't know if it is some other research from Neuromod, but a device that plays 70 dB sounds in one's ears, seems like something that would NOT help hyperacusis, but instead make it worse.

Sorry nothing back yet. I've had a busy work week so I haven't chased.

The results presented at the BTA conference from the first study stated that it worked especially well for reduction of hyperacusis. Need to see it replicated in the larger study but it was an interesting finding.

So, if they customise it to the person, do you have to have a consistent frequency?

What if yours can change frequency day to day / week to week in a never ending cycle and can be monotone or multitone?

It was estimated for end of 2018 - early 2019, but based on their peer review timeline, which they hope to complete before 2nd quarter 2019, I would say end of 2019 the earliest.

The peer review process is a separate timeline. Peer review is like an application for academic integrity... it’s not linked to the application/review for consumer sale.

I kept asking this question around and never got an answer! Thanks for clearing that up. For some reason I thought everyone has to get peer reviewed before getting approved for sale, like FDA approval.

There is an approval process... But peer reviewed is really just about getting into a journal... And a lot of times the journal just doesn't think your a good match, it has nothing to do with data consistency or methods etc. Granted, you should only be applying to journals where your work fits.

But anyways... this is like comparing potatoes to carrots.

      So...
      2019? 2020? 2021?

I asked a renowned ENT from Argentina and he only told me "When the technology is available you can try the treatment."

I’m really trying to quell my too good to be true feelings about this and the Susan Shore device.

I’m dying to hear from patients once it’s been used outside a trial setting.

The numbers and trials don’t mean a thing to me until I hear somebody tell me it’s legit.

Fuck tinnitus... I soon won't know what else to do for work... I may have to quit my bus driving job because of a recent spike. Quiet bus = no good for me. WTF.

A treatment can't come soon enough. This is all bullshit. I barely slept last night. PIERCING tinnitus.

So.. I've been reading through the posts in this thread...

Can someone give a summary? The device seems to have been released... so why is it not up for sale?

Where are all the people that have bought it, and did it help them?

Has this 'peer reviewed thingy' been released yet?

As a community, why don't we pool our resources and purchase a few of these, and let Tinnitus Talk users try it out? We rotate the devices between the users. If it doesn't work for you, pass it along. If it does work, finish treatment, then pass it along. If you wanna keep it, buy it. I mean, FFS, why can't we work together in this? Collaborate.
