      A loud concert
Ok, so my T began 6 years ago after attending a very loud concert. I was only there for a short time and left because it was uncomfortable and I had the sensation of crumpling paper inside my ear and knew something wasn't right.

Ever since that night I have had low level ringing in my ears and am sensitive to loud noises. The ringing in my ears sounds like a summer night with cicadas buzzing in the trees, hence the username. When I mentioned it to my doctor he told me there was really nothing that could be done about it, so I pretty much just accepted it.
I tried a product called ring relief...ear drops, but did not have success...however, I did not use it for long.

Recently, I have begun having vertigo. I would say it's been occurring over the past month. If I tilt my head back or roll over in bed, I get dizzy. Also, I am noticing pressure in my ears and they are achy. Not acute pain, just a little achy. If I swallow, they pop...but the pressure does not really go away. I was told by a doctor that using dramamine will help reduce the effects of vertigo, and it does help. I was also told it can take several weeks for it to clear up...and it is cause by a virus in the inner ear.

Just looking to hear if others have had similar experiences, and what you did to treat it. I have grown to accept the T, but am concerned about the pressure in my ears, the achiness, and the vertigo. I wonder if all of these are somehow connected. Although I have had T for quite a long time, I never really learned much about it or my options. I simply accepted the doctor's suggestion that there was nothing I could do about it.

Normally, I am ok and just deal with it...but with the addition of vertigo, the achiness, and pressure built up, it is frustrating me. Just would like some friendly advice and some support. Thanks.

Could be ETD. Dizzyness is not uncommon with ear infections and it usually clears up. I wouldn't expect your tinnitus to be affected long term.

Hi, Is your doctor an ENT? Vertigo could be inner ear fluid. I had it once a long time ago. There is also a med called meclazine(sp) that will help. I could not even stand upright when I had it. It was awful. I know many who have used the above medication with success.

You and I live in the same State in NE I believe based on one of your posts I read. If you need a good ENT I know of some although I am sure you have one already.

I have a question re: your T: did you ever have your hearing checked? I had mine tested Thursday and it is great. No hearing loss. Have had ringing for a few weeks now after seeing ACDC at Gillette in August. My ears were fine after the concert but then noticed the ringing a few days later. Right ear is slightly worse than left. Anyway, two ENTs feel it will go away in time due to it being mild (I only really hear it in dead quiet but it is really annoying and anxiety producing) and more importantly, no permanent damage. They told me most acoustic trauma resolves in time but takes the body a while to heal provided there is no perm hearing loss. I ask because you have had it for 6 years. Anyway, re: healing, for me only time will tell. I am trying not to focus on waiting for it to go away every day in case it doesn't. Seems there are plenty of people on this forum who got it after one concert and never healed. Trying to just take it one day at a time.

Good luck with the vertigo and be careful. MyMD told me a lot of people take a header getting out of bed if it worsens not realizing they can't stand up. Literally, I was leaning against a wall to walk. My husband thought I was being dramatic but I really could not stand up.

If your symptoms get worse get checked again by ENT.
You can get tiny crystals on the tiny hairs on your Cochlear that causes balance problems .
Also rule out Menieres Disease....lots of love glynis

Thanks for the replies. I was away the past couple of days, so I did not have a chance to check the thread until now.

In response to the comments I received....no, I have never seen an ENT. Initially, the doctor did look in my ears but did not notice any damage. Still, I know that my hearing has been affected. I am constantly asking people to repeat what they have said, and when there is any additional background noise like for instance, in a restaurant with people talking, I really have to strain to hear what people are saying.

I do need to be careful when I first get out of bed, as I do get dizzy and can lose my balance. Normally, I just sit up and wait a few seconds for the dizziness to go away. I will likely wait a few more weeks and see if the vertigo clears up. I really hope it does, as it is very uncomfortable. I wonder if there is a buildup of wax and that is what could be causing the pressure buildup. Is there a good over the counter product I can use for that? Or should I see a specialist? I will make a point to see an ENT and see if there is anything additional going on that I am not aware of. Just getting a specialist's opinion will give me some peace of mind.

Forever Hopeful, I live in Massachusetts, Norwood to be specific, so if you know a good ENT in the area, I will try and see that one. I appreciate any and all advice on the matter. Just being able to talk with people going through similar things is helpful. This is the first time in 6 years that I have been able to do that.

      Hi Cicadas24/7'

I am not too far from you. I really think you should see an ENT. If for no other reason make sure your vertigo is treated correctly and you do not have an inner thing gong on. And maybe a hearing test, although it does sound like you have a loss. Did this loss occur after the concert? I see Drs Thomas Costello and Jeffrey Brown at Ears, Nose and Throat Consultants. It is a great practice. They are right off 128 North in Woburn. Maybe 1/2 hr from you in Norwood with no traffic. 781-937-3001. There is also Mass Eye and a Ear of course but the wait is forever.

      Hi, @Cicadas 24/7,

I had all three of those symptoms -- vertigo, achiness, and pressure/fullness -- when my tinnitus worsened five years ago. (I had mild tinnitus for about 25 years before that, with no problems). I went to several doctors complaining of those symptoms, and was checked to rule out Meniere's or any other problems. None of the doctors could find anything, so I just lived with it as best I could. Eventually, I went to a chiropractic neurologist, who treated me and performed the Epley maneuver (to reset the crystals in my ears).

Today, all three of those symptoms have gone away, although my tinnitus and pulsatile tinnitus are still there.

I agree that you should go to a good doctor to be checked, to rule out any problems, or Meniere's. If there are no other problems, you may find that the symptoms resolve themselves over time. If not, you might try going to a neurologist or other specialist who could perform the Epley maneuver for you, to see if it would help resolve the dizziness.

Good luck, and please keep us posted on how you're doing.

      Best wishes,
      Karen
