I’m starting a new job. But the problem is, I need hearing protection as it’s a loud atmosphere.
Does anyone have any advice on what hearing protection I should use?

I had an ear infection recently. It’s still painful despite treatment so I’m assuming the infection was deeper than just outer ear. I don’t think the ear plugs would be a good idea. Which leaves me with the option for headphones, which are pretty tight on the head to keep out the noise. When I wear them, though, after a while the area around my ears becomes painful and my tinnitus increases. With no air getting to them, that can’t help either.

I’ve only had one shift so far (12 hour shift from 7pm!). Will this affect my hearing long term if I continue wearing them?

Have you considered noise cancelling headphones? They aren't that heavy/tight.

What are they like? Are they ones that play sounds to mask tinnitus?

      Find a less noisy job.

Hello, how loud is the atmosphere? 70 dB? 80 dB?
What kind of work is it? If I may ask.

Yes, noise cancelling headphones emit waves that cancel the noise of the external noise. Bose Quietcomfort is an example of NC headphones.

No, they are the ones that work like ear muffs. You can also play sounds through them as well.

If you already have tinnitus, find another job. That would be my advice if you didn't have it too. Noisy jobs increase the chances of getting tinnitus.

I know, but it’s a really good job.
It’s temporary too. Not longer than 12 weeks. I didn’t think that would be too bad.

I have said the same things in the past. Not worth it, trust me.

I had jobs before I had tinnitus and I would have dropped all of the noisy ones if I had another chance.

I’m fairly certain my tinnitus was brought on by neck problems. But I get where you’re coming from.
