Sudden Intense Vertigo and Spinning Sensation Followed by the Onset of Tinnitus

A few days ago I started getting sudden intense vertigo and a spinning sensation. Tinnitus also started. The vertigo has gone down so far but the tinnitus has been becoming worse. I got an appointment to see an ENT but I will have to wait until next Monday. I am afraid if I wait a week it will become worse. I want to get treatment as fast as possible.

It doesn't look like you have ordinary tinnitus. Most people here don't have vertigo.

Does this vertigo last only a few seconds? How many times per day did you get it those first few days?

Have you had any unusual headaches lately? Have you experienced any brief episodes of numbness on one side of the body?

Normally I would advise against an MRI scan, but in your case it makes sense to have one done. MRI can be loud, so you might want to call around and find one of the quieter models. Alternatively, ask your doctor whether a CT scan would do. I believe CT scans are quieter.

If you can, try to visit an otoneurologist, they are supposed to be specialized in vertigo, dizziness and ear problems.

I have an appointment to see an ENT on Monday but I don't think I can wait. I would like to see an ENT today. How do I go about this? ENTs require a referral from my GP to accept seeing me. My tinnitus is becoming worse and I'd like to do everything possible at early-onset to help my tinnitus.

It depends where you are located.

Generally speaking you should call your local private ENT consultants.

It unfortunately is unlikely to help at that stage. Prednisone should be initiated within 24-48 hours, the sooner the better.

Can't you go to the emergency room, tell you have a hearing emergency and need prednisone and to see an ENT?

I'm 15, would they still give me prednisone if I asked?

Yes they do know. But they don't know exactly where to take me.

I went to bed and when I woke a few hours later I no longer had any vertigo or dizzyness but the Tinnitus was still there & has not gone away. Did Cyberspace find out whet caused his Tinnitus and does he still have it ??

You should see a doctor and be assessed for Meniere's Disease.

Go to a hospital or major clinic where they have an ENT for emergency situations.

I saw my GP who has referred me to the ENT department at my local main NHS hospital , but I will have to wait for an appointment to come through. My doctor does not think it is Meniere's Disease as I have no hearing loss.
