Very true. I've said in the past that without knowing pain you can never truly appreciate happiness.

Yes 40 is definitely more concerning than 38...

Makes sense. Especially in your case, the sooner you can deal with signs of infection the better.
      Good luck!

No idea Glynis I've spoken to 3 Drs, 2 consultants, and 2 thoracic surgeons so far and they keep changing their minds. They've changed my antibiotic to metronidazole. The CT mentioned earlier hasn't been mentioned since so I have no idea what they are planning.

      Hi Ed

Little steps...concentrate on resting, then drinking or eating or whatever they tell you, nothing else, forget about the bigger picture because right now it's too big, but u will get there.

The antibiotics may help with the ETD, you never know...all of us st some point could be confronted with a major op or an emergency and it will be a choice between taking heavy drugs or protecting the ears with not much time to evaluate things in between. We can't control everything unfortunately.

One step at a time, concentrate on getting better.
      Forget work, family commitments.
Tinnitus won't go anywhere either so you will have time to deal with that and it will probably stay the same after your treatment.
ETD will go gradually, have had it - real pain and here in the UK you don't get anything for it.

      Lots of love x

Just had a CT scan. My temperature is still raised though. Whilst I was away apparently one of my students, who's a consultant at the hospital, came down to see me. It's a shame I missed him since I'm never out the ward.

Hopefully, I might find out more later.

Thanks so much for the updates on your ordeal Ed. And hopefully you will again "truly appreciate happiness" soon. I know I do not post very often but when someone like yourself is in agony I know how much support means.

I hope changing the antibiotic helped and is there any news on when you will get sprung from the hospital?

Love to you and your wife and parents while you get better. They seem to be a wonderful support for you.

Thanks starthrower, it's just one thing after another, but I suppose I've got no choice but to deal with it. Sepsis is no joke and I count my blessings that I erred on the side of caution and went to hospital.

It could always be worse, so I always try to remain positive, but this in particular is digging up shit that I thought was buried and gone.

I was released last night as I'm no longer deemed a medical emergency and they need the beds. I'm still really ill but have been discharged with the meds to treat myself at home. The company on the ward was what got me through; I was lucky to be in a bay where I got on really well with two other guys. Tragically, the older guy was terminal and only had months to live, but he was hilarious and had an infectiously positive personality.

Right now I've got to continue on antibiotics and head to London on Friday to be cut open and irrigated again. I'm not sure how any infection can be avoided when I went septic in two days last time round. It has to be done though because I have a collection of fluid there. I'm still waiting for the pain to subside which is felt any time I move, so I can only imagine having it done again on Friday is going to be incredibly painful.

It's not nice so make the most of some relaxing days in the sun if you can or open a few windows.
I'm so worn out with crappie lungs and raging ears so resting up at home ....

Yes I understand that very well. Trauma from the past is so hard to deal with when it is brought back again. I guess you search for that strength you have developed over the years and focus on how you made it through. The emotional and physical pain from this will ease. Even after the next draining procedure in London.

It is always the days leading up to it that are the hardest. Having to think about it for days or weeks.....and not easy to get out of your brain when the pain is there reminding you.

I really thank you for the updates and hope you know the responses here are hopefully giving you some peace of mind.

Glynis is so wonderful with her advice and love for people.

Rest up at home and try to keep busy with something.....not sure what that would be. Hard to concentrate on reading and such. You are a great writer.

      Just thinking of you....be well.

Had it done at 5:30, and I'm now on the train heading home. This time he tried to manually extract as much as he could to try and reduce the invasiveness. I'm quite bruised around my chest and they said this will get worse and become quite painful. I've been given 450mg dose of clindamycin to take on top of the 500mg of flucloxacillin that I'm already on. I'm taking both of these 4 times a day, and I won't lie, the concerns of ototoxicity at these high and prolonged doses is bothering me a bit. Even though neither drug is ototoxic, I have been taking a heavy and prolonged hit of these drugs both orally and intravenously.
