Turmeric with Curcumin Seems to Be Helping

I tried 4 capsules of "Turmeric" for 2 days after reading they helped lower the tinnitus. I had a very bad experience with it as it raised my tinnitus by 10x or more. It was like being at the airport standing behind jets as they take off!

I was crazy until the Turmeric wore off 3 days ago.

Turmeric works just like Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs, which are bad for acoustic trauma induced tinnitus sufferers.

Anti-inflammation meds are not good for acoustic trauma induced tinnitus!

Yeah man, I'm not crazy. It definitely helped me, but the effects weren't permanent. I stopped taking those very large doses because all my stuff was turning yellow. I take a few from time to time mainly for their supposed anti-cancer effects.

I was trying to take enough to try and regenerate my hair cells, based on their notch1 inhibitory properties, and it didn't work.

My theory was that the compound ly411575 restored hearing in rodents when fed to them orally at high doses, and that stuff worked by inhibiting a cellular signaling pathway called notch1. Curcumin is a notch1 inhibitor as well. There's many reasons why it failed to do so. My theory at the time was that it also affected histone acetylation in a manner not conducive to activating cell proliferation. Another theory that I have now is that it didn't cross the blood labyrinth barrier in a high enough concentration. I can't see or test my cochlea so I have no way of knowing.

I'm still convinced that there is a food, plant based compound that can regenerate our ears when taken orally.

I was certainly experiencing silence/near silence at times on the higher doses.

Even if it does not regenerate cells, it's already great that it can make tinnitus quiet for some people. @JohnAdams and others in this thread, do you see any counterindications on staying on large doses of curcumin long term (except for turning yellow) ? Could one build a tolerance to it with respect to its tinnitus silencing effect? On the other hand @TomK experience above is worrying, even though my tinnitus is not due to acoustic trauma

Thanks John. It says also "Dose-escalating studies have indicated the safety of curcumin at doses as high as 12 g/day over 3 months. ". Long term use of years might be different though.

I took 12 grams per day for about 3 weeks or so. That's when I was seeing if its notch1 inhibitory properties could induce hair cell regeneration.

Now that I think about it, maybe my hear cells didn't even die and my tinnitus is totally neuropathic....... Good thing it's impossible to know for sure I guess.

I would just stick with straight curcumin powder. You probably don't need 12 grams per day. Try 3 grams and see where that gets you.

I also tried Turmeric recently and believe my tinnitus spiked. I ordered pure Curcumin and will see if there's a difference.

@Nitro192 hey I've been really good barely hear my Tinnitus these days, I incorporated fish oil into my routine as well. The only time I notice my tinnitus is around my menstrual cycle sorry TMI lol but other than that I never hear it during the day only in a quiet room or at night when I lay my head to my pillow ear down

You need black pepper and oil, dissolve it in oil and gobble it down or cook with it

I believe it takes a few months of daily use to see results.

Also, turmeric is only "active" for 4 hours after ingestion so it's best to take smaller doses often rather than one big dose. I mean, probably.. Maybe one large dose has its' own benefits

Yeah it makes your skin yellow, for me it starts with fingernails, fingers, palms, and the soles of my feet.

Heck yeah it is bio-available, when taken with food. All these people that claim it is not bio-available are stupid liars or idiots.

I started at 12 g/day for about 5 weeks and went down from there. The reason I started so high was because I discovered that curcumin is a potent notch 1 inhibitor (look that up) just like the chemicals that are being use to regenerate cochlear hair cells. It's basically a long story but I inadvertently discovered that curcumin was good at lowering my tinnitus so long as I was on it as opposed to being a full blown cure like I was hoping it would be taking it in high doses.

Well, I'm not sure but this is what I've heard. There's probably some info about this if you google it, I know there's some studies done on turmeric. As with everything, some turmeric is always going to be good for you. But if you use it as a medicine for arthritis for example, you probvably want to administer it several times every day

Similarly, the studies done on turmeric that proves it's health benefits used something like 26 grams a day. Probably way more than needed, and lower doses will most likely have health benefits as well. I use 20 grams a day myself.

I'm talking about pure ground turmeric, not curcumin capsules. Pure turmeric is barely bioavailable if not ingested in the way I said

About the 4 hour window, I'm just repeating info I've heard/read, so I don't know honestly. I don't "feel" anything when taking tumeric, unless I take way too much which then makes it slightly psychoactive in an unpleasant way. Since I take so many supplements and herbs it's hard to say what does what

Tried pure curcumin now, compared to my turmeric capsules. It seems that it did indeed leave me with a spike. I ceased taking it Both turmeric and curcumin capsules left me with an even whinier hissing noise, it got almost painful in my left ear.
