"Happy Death Day 2U", and I hated it (the first movie was pretty good though).

The last movie that I had ever watched at a movie theater was back in 1987 - it was "Evil Dead 2." :)

Today I started watching Get Smart also with Anne Hatheway on Netflix. I've already seen it.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Black Panther. I walked out about 1/2 hr into the movie, the scene where they're fighting for who will be ruler. I thought it was because of the predictable plot and my lack of ability to suspend disbelief but perhaps the movie was too loud. I heard t for the first time the following day.

Do you think this may have been the actual cause of your tinnitus then?

I watched Bohemian Rhapsody on video, not at the movies.

      @emmalee

No, it wasn't the movie. My noise exposure was 10 days before I saw the movie. I think the hyperacusis made the movie seem loud.

I'm having trouble recollecting, but I think it was the "The Golden Boy". Great documentary on Oscar De La Hoya's life.

Just saw Oppenheimer. Best drama I have seen in years. Surprising amount of nudity. Three hours, but it moves at a good pace. Would recommend. No really loud scenes, and only a few with what might be considered high volume.

      John Wick: Chapter 4.

Spectacular action movie. Keanu Reeves is almost 60 and still putting in the work. The third act is all non-stop action. Great set pieces in Paris. The traffic shootout was a highlight.

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

It had great potential delving into Rocket's trauma but cheesed out for me with the sappy free children shtick at the end, amongst the overall weaker script and character builds. I thought 1 and 2 were outstanding films with great humour, passion and even a bit of heart wrenching. Great science fiction and fantastic music.

      Number 3 was a disappointment.

"The Suicide Squad" (2021) with Margot Robbie, Idris Elba and John Cena.

With 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it stands heads and shoulders above its failed 2016 predecessor "Suicide Squad" with Will Smith and Jared Leto.

This 2021 film is an unapologetically ultra-violent slapstick movie with Superheroes, anarchic and riotously funny dialogue while also touching on serious topics.

      Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with their adult superhero alter egos. When a vengeful trio of ancient gods arrives on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Shazam and his allies get thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of the world.

      Very entertaining.

Kind of entertaining, but the plot line was too vague and felt really forced.

Saw X last weekend. The plot was... very symbolic. Scam artists eating each other. There oughta have been a character named Lenire. You have prolonged the suffering of millions of people. Your stratagems have delayed Dr. Shore's treatment by years, as you have opportunistically snatched away the de novo approval with your expensive toy, and you shall be held accountable. Cheating will henceforth be impossible, and in the best case, should you accomplish upcoming trials, your careers shall not be left intact, for you have brought it unto yourselves.

      Just rewatched this:

      41437E66-4881-438A-9AE2-01154692E424.jpeg

A 80s classic featuring Kurt Russell, Dennis Dun, and Victor Wong. Nuff said.
      Hey DL,

Honestly, Phase 4 and 5 (post Endgame) of the Marvel Cinematic universe have lost their sense of direction. I’m not the biggest fan of the MCU or Superhero movies at all anymore. I like them, but it’s not something that I find exciting anymore. The superhero genre has become way too saturated at this point.

I think Martin Scorsese said it best when he likened these Marvel movies to amusement park attractions.
Essentially, they’re a fun ride, but once it’s over and the movie ends, there’s nothing really thought provoking or intriguing to discuss about the film afterwards. That’s pretty much it. I never see myself wanting to rewatch these Marvel movies ever again, barring a few obvious exceptions (Ironman 1 is still great).
I watched this recently. It was decent and fun. Maybe a little too much CGI and VFX special effects for my liking. It’s one my issues with superhero films in general. I prefer practical effects over CGI any day of the week.

Did like the cameo appearance from Wonder Woman though

      Hi brother,

Literature is dying in the age of Tiktok and CGI movies. I was reminiscing about the first books I got turned onto as a teenager, being Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and then Isaac Asimov. I have also been revisiting Scorsese, what a genius. I want to post a scene from Goodfellas, perhaps you can do this for me, when Joe Pesci says "How am I funny" in the bar. The scene goes form lighthearted banter to murderous intent in a matter of a minute. Mean Streets, Raging Bull, and Taxi Driver are just masterpieces. I didn't bother with the Last Temptation of Christ or the Irishman, but am an absolute fan of Scorsese's and hope to make a sculpture honoring him one day.

Tarantino, who we both adore, is also a genius. I really enjoy hearing Scorsese or Tarantino talk about their cinematic choices, film angles, music, script. Their genius humbles me.

I hope my kids will actually read a freaking book by themselves one day and enjoy the pleasure of reading and the worlds books open a person to.

My student just walked in the room and I have to rap things up...

Take care my friend and if you are able to post that scene from Goodfellas, I would be chuffed.

Either way, stay strong and stay well.

      Sincerely,
      Daniel

The Flash, I watched it at home as I no longer go to the movies as they are too loud.

The movie is for special effects, light comedy, action, etc. There's nothing in it to think about the next day, it's just entertainment.

Interesting. Have you ever seen the movie Bird about Charlie Parker, the jazz musician? It's super cool.

I can't watch films in movie theatres. @just1morething's tinnitus is more from TMJ and barotrauma, but still bold to step foot in a theatre.

      Xxxx hugs

No, I haven't seen that one @Daniel Lion.
I haven't been to a movie theatre in quite a while. My tinnitus and hyperacusis are pretty bad. I watch movies at home, on mute or very low volume, with subtitles.

@just1morething, the drumming in Whiplash was fierce! That movie was definitely on mute lol.

      Hugs to you both. :)

Watched "The Pope's Exorcist" last night. Enjoyed Russel Crow's performance and the movie had the right amount of religious spookiness to make it a worthwhile watch.

Having recently bought the book Surely You Can't Be Serious, I just re-watched the 2 Airplane! movies at home on Blu-ray discs for the hundredth time. Sadly, they are very dated and some of the jokes have expired. But still classics.
