Cause of Tinnitus
Not sure
I know we can't answer questions for sure, we can only guess (some things we can with knowledge).

Here is my problem. I got tinnitus in January earlier this year. It lasted for two weeks then it went off. So entire February was problem free, my life went back to normal, same in the beginning of March. But then, four-five days ago my T returned. The only thing I can maybe point at was in Friday when I was in a pub which had loud music, but my T came 1-2 days after that. Besides that I've been careful.

What would you guess on can cause T to disappear then come back? I know people generally say if it comes and goes it's a good sign. But I've also read one case where the T went off then came back but permanent.

Like I said, I know we can't say anything for sure, but most people here I assume has read a lot about T and possible causes.

Reading this post, what would you guess the cause is?

Also I should mention in February month there was 1-2 occasions when I woke up I had the T then it disappeared after 1 hour maybe after I got out of bed. So it is something that is coming and going.

Nobody can possibly know.
Be thankful it goes and pray it dosent come back to stay.
Above all Keep Calm and Carry On !

mine comes and goes since May of last year. I hope its a sign of eventual fading. I have friends that got better over time and say that intermittent symptoms with more and more tiem feeling good was the process.

So almost for a year you've had that. How long does it stay? And when it goes, how long does it go?

And I want to mention this again. When I say it comes and goes, I dont mean during the day, I mean on a bigger scale. Like I can have it for days/weeks, then it goes away for days/week. Has happened once now so will see if it goes away again.

The same as my guesses as to why my hyperacusis comes and goes pretty much on a schedule. As I've noted once before, its best to ask the eminent Neuro-otologist Professor F**k, because only f**k knows.

@Raphael7713 - I understand that this is stressful for you. 99.9% of people here would consider themselves cured if they had your scenario. Log off this site and live your life.

As to it going away - mine goes away for days at at time, and comes back viciously. When it "goes away" - I have what you have. I can hear it a bit when I lay down or plug my ears. If it faded to that and stayed that way for 18 months I'd probably never thinka bout it except for when I walked into a loud place.

My tinnitus started back in january, and since then it has come and go. Sometimes I have it, sometimes I don't. Now i'm in a period where I have it. But here's the situation, and it's really strange:

Take yesterday as an example. Sometimes before I go to bed I go inside a small room and close all doors so its very quiet and try to hear if I have T. Nothing. Ok, so I go inside my room and chill with my laptop (very quiet in the room). I try to listen after my T...nothing. Ok. So I chill with my laptop..suddenly this sound appears which Im guessing is T (not sure). So I go back inside the same small room to make sure if its from my room or outside the window, or if im actually hearing that sound. Then all of a sudden I have it in the room, when moments earlier I didnt have it.

This is confusing me so much and Im not sure anymore how much im imagning or is psycological, or if its actually T. Because many times I have thought I got T..but then i realize the sound comes from my radiator (a very low frequent sound). Then im like omg, this sound come from the radiator all along. But sometimes I have it for real. So my entire situation is sooo confusing that im not sure anymore how much of it im imagining and how much is real.

Has anyone any answers or experienced somethng similar?

Another example is like 150 meters from my house there is a building. When you pass this building it actually gives away a sound that is very similar to T..everyone can hear it. So when Im hope sometimes this low sound (from that place) enters my room and I thought i had T. I know my entire post is very confusing to read..but I hope you know what im getting at. To put it simple, sometimes I dont have T but I think I have it, since im hearing strange noises that turn out to have a source. Sometimes I actually have it and I think its from some source.

And My mind has very VERY hard to let go of sounds, even when they are low, so I think about them very much to the point where it actually creates a loop inside of my head and I hear it all the time, even if it isnt there.

It could mean you have some other kind of T that isn't related to the inner ear. Could be middle ear, eustachian tube, or perhaps tight muscles.

If it's any of the above, is it fixable or is it like the hearing loss - just dealing with it?
Another thing i've had for 13 months I believe is when I bow down I get a whooshing sound in my right ear, When I stand back up straight it goes away. I explained it to my ENT she had no idea of what it was.

Well the day has came which I always knew would. If you have read my thread you know my situation. I've had tinnitus since january that has come and go, now I've have it for 3 weeks (longest time so far) and I'm pretty sure it won't disapear this time. Fucklife :)

Have you been to that pub since that Friday?

Yea I have, but when the music is/gets loud i'm always quick to leave or tell my friends I don't want to get exposed to loud music so i either go home or we go somewhere else. There has been occasions where i have beene exposed to medium high music.

And I haven't used my headphones since january either. Or i used them twice but in a VERY low volume.

Once one has T, one's life will never be the same. After reading countless horror stories on this site where sufferers decide to continue "living their life" despite their T and then have their T come back, or increase in volume, it seems to me that the loudest sound one can afford to be exposed to is that of a running tap water. Even that causes problems in some people who learned the hard way to wear Peltor earmuffs whenever they have to wash the dishes or wash their face in the morning.

Personally, I wear earplugs whenever I am outside of my home. Thus far, this policy had protected me from the sound of slamming doors, loud trucks accelerating, and loud car horns. I wear Peltor muffs whenever I turn on my microwave oven. I will never use a vacuum cleaner and I will never mow grass ever again. I try to carry my Peltor muffs with me, in case I end up being near a fire alarm, or I hear an ambulance siren approaching. My plan is to do this for the next 1-5 years. Something tells me that I might be stuck doing this for the rest of my life.

Hopefully your T will eventually go away again. IMHO if you don't go out of your way to change your lifestyle in order to protect your compromised ears, you will be stuck with T forever. Even worse is that if you don't protect your ears and continue visiting pubs, the volume of your T may increase, and its pitch may become more unbearable and piercing.

If you start feeling unsure whether such drastic measures are necessary, spend some time reading the threads on this forum. Doing so will give you all of the inspiration you will ever need.

@Bill Bauer You plague this forum with paranoia and the most stupid shit ever. Wear earplugs for the sound of a fucking microwave? You've had T for 3 months...

Why would anyone want to live there life the way you do? do you not have any friends do you not socialise do you not have any hobbies that require you to be exposed to sound over 60db, do you not work?

I understand T is tough ive had if for 4 months and has changed me but it doesn't have to be the end of your life like you're making it sound..

%10 of the populaiton have T do you think %10 of the population are scared of the sound of running water? Absolutely fucking not.. Start living your life mate.

Obviously one has to take precautions and change there lifestyle for T but you might as well give up now if this is what you have become.

Me too wear plugs when opening and closing the microwave, flusing the toilet, cooking.
I do this because I have severe T and Hyperacusis. Without protection it would be unbearable

@Bill Bauer that first link isn't a horror story. Its a fear mongering post very similar to what you have been posting recently
They say that traffic laws were written in blood. I think the same can be said about a rule of thumb that once you have T, you'd better change your lifestyle, or else.

Fear mongering? Isn't it rational to fear things that can (in an instant) permanently change the quality of your life?
You plague this forum with paranoia and the most stupid shit ever.
Hopefully you realize that the statement above is not an actual argument.
Why would anyone want to live there life the way you do?
Answer: To avoid the return of T. For people who still have T, they would want to avoid T getting louder. It is also possible that these people increase their chance of recovery. There is no cure for T, but you Can protect your ears, and that might promote recovery.

has changed me but it doesn't have to be the end of your life like you're making it sound..
It is only the end of your life if you ignore your T, make it worse, and then become suicidal. I am committed to Changing my life, as I am taking into account that my ears have now been compromised.

%10 of the populaiton have T do you think %10 of the population are scared of the sound of running water?
There is a difference between having T, and having debilitating T that causes one to visit their ENT, to start taking pills to fall asleep, and to start reading this forum. If one has the latter, then one may consider making drastic changes.

I am basing my posts on the information I learned after reading many other posts on this site. Actually, this thread itself is evidence that I am more likely to be right than you and "Sam Bridge". The author of this thread didn't change his lifestyle, and now his T is back. I am sure that the author wouldn't have gone to those pubs, had he known what he knows now. The three of you illustrate the fact that it never occurs to some T sufferers the degree to which they ought to change their lifestyle, given their preferences about T.

I was trying to illustrate one of the options available to them. And this is what people come to this forum for - brainstorming about how to handle this condition. It is too bad that this forum doesn't allow one to "dislike" posts. I dislike your take on T, you dislike my take and that's fine. But note that I am not the one who resorted to personal attacks.

Noises like that cause temporary spikes for me (and, based on what I've seen in this forum, for others). This is body's way to communicate with us. To avoid a permanent spike, it seems like a good idea to avoid doing anything that can possibly cause a temporary spike (do it enough times, and the spike becomes permanent). Note that this would have probably ensured that the author of this thread would not have to deal with T right now. We are given only a limited number of second chances.
