What's the Point? No Matter What I Try to Do, I Will FOREVER Have My Tinnitus and Hyperacusis...

As you know, I am doing all I can to avoid loud noises. Today I was walking on a quiet street, when someone in a Mercedes had stepped on the gas pedal (resulting in his car engine revving unimaginably loud). His car was about 3 meters away from me, on the side of my bad ear. I had an ear plug in, but now I am experiencing a full ear sensation in my bad ear, and my T is louder and higher pitched... I had been wearing my Peltor muffs on the street earlier today, but that road seemed deserted and quiet...

I can't believe how unlucky I am when it comes to avoiding noise...

 

I imagine that as the state government gets closer to bankruptcy, taxes will be going up, there will be fewer government services and their quality will be lower.

 

I've thought more about my tinnitus in the last couple of week since finding this site, than I have in the many years prior. Had it all of my life. It's gotten worse over the years for sure. I decided to try and research ways to make it better or at least quiet it to what it used to be, and of course because of that, I'm noticing it more. It's loud, but over the years it has just been background noise. Sort of a soundtrack to my life. And I have had it forever. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't have it at least at some level. That non-stop high pitched whistling noise that's always in my left ear and sometimes in my right ear. Somewhere along the way early in life, I damaged my ears. Perhaps it was that concert I went to when I was 16. That was loud and I don't ever remember experiencing noise like that prior to the concert. Or maybe it was shooting 22s in Boy Scouts when I was 12.

Point is that over time, you do learn to live with it and it becomes a background noise that you can largely forget about. The only time it really bugs me is when I've hiked in to some isolated area and there's nothing but the sounds of nature and my high pitched whistling. I guess that I'll never know what nature truly sounds like.

 

Dude, you live in Geneva! You are incredibly lucky. The noise of what strength you have, the hearing is in order, is there a girl? I think you'll get used to it, a good climate for Zhenva will help. I live in the far east of Russia, dude! This is sadness. We already have snow everywhere and -20 ° C. There is almost no sun. If not for this climate, at least a little better, there would be no tinnitus. But life is very unfair. PS. Are there any developments in Switzerland to restore hearing and against tinnitus?

 

Yes I tried some white noises I think some time ago...

It was fine when I was listening to it, but after turning the sound off, my T was stronger... I don't know why... So I stopped...

 

The thing is we CANNOT just avoid all the noises !!!

There are too many every day ! People love the noise !

With their cars, motorbikes, scooters, music, screams, talking loudly, etc...

They just love it !

 

And let me guess : rich people get richer and the condition of the other (poor and modest classes) get worse ?

This is how the World is, and it's getting worse everywhere...

 

I would prefer to live anywhere else that having my life here...

Because I don't have "only" T and H, but other problems that made my life shit way before the ear trouble...

@Christophe_85 maybe you should think we're to live next. Think about we're that would be. Some places are cheaper to live. You seem to not like where you live even though it's Gevena. Start working on your research.

No no I like living here, it's just that anywhere I could live, I would still have my T and H...

And especially because I have all my friends and family here... And my work too...

 

It's horrible and I hope you can forget about T. Keep yourself busy. I stay busy almost all day. Plan your days, always plan ahead. That's what I do. You live in a lovely place. Get your mind back right.

 

I went for lunch today with my 2 friends and they asked me if I still got Tinnitus...

It's crazy how people don't know our condition...

So I unfortunatly had to say "Yes I still got it, and this is for life"...

 

Also one couldn't really believe the Hyperacousis...

 

It is a total misunderstood illness and the damage it can do to people. I could not even tell family they cannot help. And t varies among people, but you are not alone with this illness. Inch by inch for a better day.

Today was difficult to see that my best friends don't take my ear trouble seriously, like it was something temporary... Or that I over react to noise or something like that...

It was like this is nothing important, just a small worry easy to handle, it made me feel like a shit...

 

That's what surprise me it's globally unknown and yet alot of people suffer. It's so unfair.

 

Couldn't you try to clarify it to them how devastating and important this is for you?

 

Its an invisible injury. No one understands until it strikes them personally.

 

The first time I read about T was years before I got T. I was blown away - it sounded horrific...

 

Yes to me it was clear that one of the biggest reason I got really depressed was my Tinnitus... They know I was feeling bad, but apparently they don't know well...

I was trying to explain a bit but it got me confused and lost...

I wanted to tell them that I often want to die because of that... But after I don't want to argue why I have these thoughts...

 

Yes I totally agree...

And people forget that we are sensitive with our ears, all the time...

It's really often the same question : "But you still got this ???"

 

One friend of my parents has this since many years... And when we talked about him I really felt sorry for him... And really didn't want this to happen to me !

 

Went to one of my sisters today, it was great with the children, I laughed a lot !

But I have this impression of my T increasing tonight...

Or it's like when every time I do something with people, not being lonely all the time because of my ears, I risk the possibility of increasing my T...

Even if it was not too loud, even with children screaming all around... I am kind of lost sorry for my negativity...

No. Tinnitus is simple. Humans are stupid. Time travel maybe a bit tricky tho.

My view is, believing it is uncurable is an untenable position. Modern man has been on the planet 200,000 years and the cell phone was just invented a few years ago.

Now it would completely suck if they found the cure after we have passed. Well, it would be good for those that come after us.

Hi Paul,
I will speak honestly as I try to do. I found the support forum a bit overwhelming. I felt the pain of the big sufferers and like yourself, Glynis, Michael and countless others tried to help those in the greatest pain. We as you know are pretty powerless other than 'acceptance' and of course hoping for a rare turn of fate of lessening T...mine goes down slightly once in a while. Or...hoping for a research break through which I believe will come because tinnitus is being attacked on so many levels.

So mostly, I have been lurking on the research forum...mostly as observer because I have so little to add from a research standpoint...but trying to stay abreast of trials and threads in particular that show promise.

I believe as tinnitus sufferers we need mostly positivity on some level.

My thoughts. Let's hope for some progress soon and be well Paul.
