I am also reading Frumoasele Straine, by Mircea Cartarescu. The author quotes several other Romanian authors, novelists and poets in the book, but they are not very easy to find... I have been trying to do a search in several websites to download eBooks versions, also in bookshops, online sellers...

@aura, why the only Romanian author whose eBooks are more or less easy to find is Mircea Eliade?

Tales of the Dragon Guard/La Geste des Chevaliers Dragons (2005)

A comic book (yes), and my favourite comic book of all time.

Got slated by a bunch of weebs and book critics online. Read the short series and it's easy to see what drew their attention while they were ignoring the beautifully straightforward storyline and stunning art.

One of the criticisms I read of my beloved comic series was as follows:

There's no explanation as to where the Dragons have come from, why their existence affects people the way it does, or why only virgin females are capable of slaying them.

Eh? Yeah mate, there's also no explanation for where vampires come from, or why they prefer the blood of virgins, but you're not going off on Bram Stoker are you?

But the best one was by some airheaded weebo who referred to the comic as laughable, and then in another post claimed Vampire Knight was one of the greatest comics ever written...

So, if the woman who wrote that blog ever has a bout of tinnitus and happens to be reading this: you were comparing a sh*t tier Twilight clone with piss poor generic Sailor Moon level illustrations to the epic piece of art I've posted above? Really? Just the front covers of TOTDG alone were hands-down better than the entire series of your bland and uninspiring vampire school Shōjo trash.

That out of the way, any serious comic book appreciator worth their salt will seek this out (online or in hard-copy) and read it.

I prefer reading in paper too, but for instance a book by Cartarescu in Spanish is offered only in one format, by one single editor, and those books usually cost more than 20 euros each...

Maybe they are cheaper in English, but they are hard to find here...

I managed to buy Hungarian books in English in Budapest... maybe if one day I go to Bucharest there also the option of purchasing paper books in English at a Romanian bookshop (by the way, which bookshop would be good in Bucharest?)

      Thanks for the recommendations! :)

By the way... over time you should be able to go to stores with hearing protection, earplugs or earmuffs... just wear the earmuffs if those feel better.

As I said many times, I have been to restaurants wearing huge Peltor earmuffs. Nobody cared, and I did not feel strange. Other people have other health conditions and they adapt as they can...

Since hit with nonstop loud vibrating tinnitus, it's been so difficult to focus, to truly immerse in books as I used to.

Currently reading "The Goldfinch"... so far so good. (Brief mentions of tinnitus from noise trauma).

SciFi is my preferred genre. My favorite book is Ender's Game. It's meaningful to me because I read it as a young adult, and it really captured my imagination, so nostalgia is part of it.

      I Luv Halloween (2005-2007)

Been following a perfectly sensible theme over the last 24 hours (I'll leave you to guess what that is).

So anyway, where this (comic) book is concerned, not only is the title self-descriptive (for me) but the whole series (three volumes) is both beautiful (visually) and f*cking hilarious (conceptually).

Recommend you to order it express (or download it now) and read before we hit November.

Justice by Michael Sandel is such a fun read. I read this back in college and now revisiting it. The author is an interesting individual — adheres to communitarian beliefs. He thoroughly goes over the various ethical theories found in moral and political philosophy, from the works of renowned philosophers like Aristotle, Bentham/John Stuart Mill, Immanuel Kant, Robert Nozick, and John Rawls, and employs real-world hypothetical scenarios to assess whether their theories lead to the morally correct course of action.

Highly recommend this read to everyone.

I read Pawel Jastreboff's book, but I ceremonially burned it. It's utter bullshit.

      Except for the accumulating tinnitus.
