I went to the best TMJ Specialist in my state. Ironically, the guy was right down the road from me. I told him all my symptoms and he checked my bite. Sure enough, my oen side was touching before the other. He said after my dental work, my bite remained off and he had an alternative approach to correct it and also solve my clenching issue. After all said and done, he threw a price at me of about $2800 to "help" with everything but there was no guarantee it fixes everything. Debating what I should do. The whole process is a matter of 3 appoints, being hooked up to a TENS machine to realign my bite and jaw into the right position. Thoughts?

I would do some serious checking about how effective this treatment is. Hopefully, others here with experience can chime in.

I think with most tinnitus treatments, though, there are no guarantees. At least he was honest with you about that. Up to you if you have $2,800 in your budget for taking a chance on a dark horse.

At this point in my financial situation and habituation I would probably find better things to do with 2800$ :p

That's a good amount of cash. What's special about his treatment, did he explain how it works?

You can a good TENS machine for not very much money so I guess he must do something else that you couldn't do yourself. If you can get any more info let us know.

It's a lot of money to find out if it will do anything to you, especially when it is just a chance.

It's interesting that he says the jaw will find its natural position with the TENS machine. I'm wondering if anyone has tried this and have any experiences to share? @Sound Wave got a TENS machine I recall, any joy with it?

I actually belong to the gym, but not sure a gym will be able to correct my bite :p I am doing some Yoga streches and they seem to help.

Thanks for the feedback all. I'm still uncertain what to do. I have a lot of these underlying symtoms. Whether they are related to the jaw not being aligned and might bite being off, is unknown. All I know is that I'm still messed up 3 days after detal work back in 2013.

I don't know, doesn't seem likely. How would jaw alignment cause Tinnitus? Your sleep will come back once you learn to tune it out..

I had a similar situation. My dentist reshaped several molars on the affected side, two days later my chiropractor noticed my jaw was out and popped it back in. Everything seems to be working normally again.

had the teeth reshaped first so that everything lined up better when the jaw was adjusted. it was a little unnerving to feel it pop in. Still got T though and mine is keeping me up at night

i go to a neuromuscular dentist next week. they will hook you up to a tens unit, make a splint for bottom teeth to realign the jaw, and use a k7 on you to find the most relaxed position for your jaw.it will be 2900 where I live which is an hour away. I have read up on neuromuscular dentist, so im probably going to find out if I need what you are thinking of getting done. did he say your jaw or anything is hitting the nerves? I don't know a lot about how it works but I guess I will find out, I do know of one lady that had tinnitus on another forum that had this done and hers went away after treatment.please keep us updated.and good luck if you decide to get it done

Sounds like the same thing he wants to do to me. He showed me some stuff and said that while my jaw may not be totally out of whack, it could be just enough along with the uneven bite to throw my system out of whack. I'm a little nervous about a TENS unit to be honest, especially with an electrical current going into it while I have 2 porcelain crowns fused gold on my back 2 teeth. I suspect this is the root cause of it though and why my bite is uneven.

Jeannie, how did that appt go? Any luck with the neuro dentist? I have yet to decide whether I want to go through with this or not. My jaw does click/pop when I move it from side to side though. I have no silver fillings in my mouth, so I can rule this out as the source of my T. I have 2 crowns next to each other on my back molars. They are porcealin fused to gold. I had some strange crowns with mostly metal and some gold before this and felt my T was worse with those.

hi luckyman 316, I went and gpt mouth measured and had the tens for an hour and the day I went in my tinnitus was about a 1 so it was a good day for me, it really hasn't been any louder.. I asked the dentist about the battery effect and he said it wouldn't cause any problems... im thinking of getting my almagams out in the future ,afraid to get shots in jaw (afraid it will make tinnitus louder).. im going to get my splint though, its to move lower jaw forward, and im kinda nervous about that too... hope it works cuz it was 2900 !:nailbiting::greedy:

@luckyman316 My point of view is simple.. if you can afford it then go for it..
i do suffer from tmj issues too..
someone in here pointed out if ur T is all over the place and very high in the morning you probably have tmj issues.
in my case it is true. my jaws would get stuff and locked some time. Found some excerises which help with pain and stiffness. I miss took my tmj issues with immune system disfunction.. anyways now planning to pull my wisdom teeth soon (all 4 of them, if necessary ).
Now searching for a experienced dentist to deal with this.
jst avoid getting any permanent implants.

Jeanie, thanks for sharing! The one I want to go to, as you ssw the link, wants to do the TENS and then the K7 Unit to check the bite. I'm still skeptical. He wants to make a lower mouthguard for me to help with the bite and reduce the force of impact. I already have an upper which seems to help during the night and when I wake up, I feel great. He didn't make a mention of a splint but said I needed braces because I replapsed from when I was a kid and suggested invisilign. On most days, my T is a "1". It used to be a 7 at some point and I'm still confused whether my liver issue which is being resolved or the dental work + nightguard reduced it. I'm considering accupuncture first before this.

Thanks for sharing nogood. I got all 4 wisdom teeth taken out in 2005, this was well before my T. I got knocked out and they did it and I never had a problem. If you live in NJ, I can reccommend you the guy I went to...

Funny you mentioned you mistaken the issue with an autoimmune issue. I currently have one and have to wonder if it's the cause of my T. I did some research and issues with one's liver could potentially cause it and sure enough, I have a liver issue. Probably should try accupuncture first but I'm scared of the tiny needles lol

I wouldn't expect him to fix your T; only your jaw. I would consider it a bonus if it took care of your T; but I wouldn't spend $2800 on a 'chance' to fix your T; just your jaw.

acupuncture is pretty harmless if done correctly. The needle doesn't hurt more than mosquito bite if it does then its being done wrongly.
vegan diet for 6 months will help for liver issues. Liver issues grow with intake of animal protein. At the least Milk and meat shld be reduce a bare minimum.
In my case After chinese doctor said i might have mis aligned jaws. I went through my ct scan and head xrays I noticed that teeth are not symtrical and out of position. after massaging and stretching my jaws lot of pain subsided and T stablized.
