    Having a weird spike for a couple of days now. Been exposed to one scream pretty close to me, one door getting shut HARD by the wind because a window was open and hammering in a couple of nails fixing my roof (of course with dualprotection). Think it will be subsiding i a couple of weeks but a little bit annoying to get a boost in the sound

    Starting to forget my tinnitus a little bit more again. Still think it spiked thru the wardrobe incident but somehow i dont "care as much" when the anxiety is low. I actually manage to work up the courage to prebook a trip to an all you can eat shrimp buffe in the next week!

    Did exactly the same numerous times. I remeber i had to take a "phone call" over a television that had like 80% volume and it was screaching from the cheap speakers with high pitch noice when they talked. It was a 90DB on my phone. I lasted like 2-3 minutes before i had to insert my earplugs. Got VERY scared over that incident but i was fine after a couple of weeks.

    Remeber its the anxiety that makes u not able to sleep not the tinnitus. alot of people got TT over 80 DB constant in their ears and sleep like babies. I also get trouble sleeping when im "subconsciously anxious over a loud sound"

    @Sodlin Yes you are so right, thank you for reminding me. It's also anxiety that starts the downwards spiral, thinking of the cumulative damage and all, times I should've used ear pro but didn't, talking hours of exposure to 80db noise. But all that matters is what I do now and still doing my best to use protection in appropriate situations, and if slip-ups happen it's not the end of the world :)

    Anxiety gone now after the wardrobe incident. I still have a spike tho. the only good thing about this is that i actually realized that i suffer from phonofobia (always thought so but now i know for sure)

    Anxiety seems to mostly have subsided now which is great. Now im more "annoyed" then scared of the spike. Tinnitus still loud tho, hope it will subside

    Still in the wardrobe spike. Anxiety kind off comes in "wawes" its like im feeling okey then suddenly i get heatstroke and getting butterflies in my stomatch etc. I hope the spike will subside when the anxiety symptoms end. Its not fun when u cant mask it and u have 2 more sounds in your head. Hope every1 is feeling well!

    Reading this, I think we might have a very similar spike in terms of characteristics, this gives me some more hope that this will in fact subside, thank you :)

    Still in the spike, anxietywise i feel alot better with less doom and gloom thinking but the spike is still agressive and loud. If it is bc of the anxiety over the wardrobe accident i wonder how long after the anxiety is gone the spike will actually calm down.

    Today we drove past a construction site when i was talking to my mom in the car. I held my fingers in my ear while we drove past the site since they were using jackhammer right next to the car and responded to her question. I was like "wow that was loud talking with the fingers in the ears" i know that occulision effect can make it louder but there is no way that can actually be damaging right?

    I am not as anxious about the incident anymore but im very irritated since its very hard to not hear it and im also for some weird reason im very sleepy.
    imagine doing something so silly that running into a wardrobe could ruin ur entire week... -.-

    Well the spike from last incident is here and very loudly, trying to stay calm but very hard. Funny how life was doing really good for 2 weeks and then a idiot incident running into a wardrobe door sets me back to having panic and high anxiety again. Always feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back with this condition.... Just hoping the spike wont be permanent.

    This the nature of tinnitus @Sodlin Ups and downs. Dont let the downs get to you too much (easier said than done, I know), and they will usually be way more shortlived. That has been my experience.

    Hypervigilance and overfocusing on the spikes make them tenfolds worse.

    Remember, this too shall pass.

    Thanks for the uplifting spirit. Been 3 days now and its still roaring in one of the ear :/ I seem to never manage to "keep calm" during these spikes and somehow subconcius get anxiety ridden over them. Think i should have learned after all these years!

    Yes overfocusing sure makes them worse!

    Couldn't've said it better myself. 1 step forward and 2 steps backwards is exactly what it feels like :/

    Havent been in here much since ive been having some really great weeks. Today it was a loud sound. I had 2 wardrobe doors open next to eachother and by accident when going in smacked one of them with my shoulder so they banged against eachother making a very loud sound. Measured to 109-111 DB and it was right next to my ear :/ Hope i wont spike.

    It seems like you spike easily but haven't had any permanent increases, is that right?

    Yes i do spike easily i also can "change" the TT alot with neck, jaw etc. (if i bend over to pick something up with earplugs for example i get a very loud HUMMMMMMMM). ive had some some increases but those have been PROPER loud sound like concert without earplugs, muffler explosion etc. Its hard to say if it gets louder or not alot of the times from these "normal loud sounds" but most tend to get back to baseline.

    We seem to be quite similar in the fact that I also didn't use this site at all because I was generally doing fine, but now with this mega spike I'm back here again. So it goes. Hopefully this passes soon, I'm tired of this monthly emotional rollercoaster which is T :/

    Last weeks have been goin pretty good. Only like 1 "loud sound" incident each week. Focusing on relaxing and just getting my mental state together. Feels good when u got some energy to actually do something :) Feeling positive.

    Had a conversation with a coworker that is VERY loud when she talks. I thought my Hyperacusis was better so i just took 2-3 steps back and had the conversation for around 1 hour without earplugs. Was so proud that i managed handle it decent! Today im paying with a pretty huge spike tho :/

    Had an extremly important meeting and my coworker had borrowed my "portable speaker microphone" and hadnt return it so had to sit in a room with 5 coworkers with the laptop speakers on max trying to have a meeting. Man those laptopspeakers is like a drill in the ear, i handled it for 5 minutes then i had to go back and get earplugs to continue the meeting. Having a spike hope i didnt screw up.

    No, you didnt screw up man. You need to stop the circle of worry. I know 100% where you are coming from. Those sounds are not good to me either with their thinny, high frequent soundscape. But honestly, the worst thing that will happen with this, is ear fatigue and a shortlived spike (if that). Your pattern of reaction makes more damages to your nervous system than this sound.

    I can feel that. It was some truly good times that there were no piercing sounds for the ears, back with no T/H...

    The spike ended very quickly. (i got a very huge spike from something else tho that i cant really pinpoint but i think its from sitting and something muscle related). After the speaker incident spike subsided i actually been doin pretty good. Tinnitus still roars as loud as possible but for some reason my mind dont seems to "care" so much.

    *rotating my head from side to side=SPIKES
    *turning my neck to bring your ear to your shoulder=SPIKES
    *bending my neck forward to bring your chin to your chest=SPIKES
    *Ive always been able to make me ear scream by pressing right behind my ear on the "bony part". Just a coincidence that the SCM attaches right there? Might be a eartrauma combined with muscles in my case maybe?

    PART 1 Today i found a very intressting article. I read this article and EVERY movement from the SCM spike my tinnitus while im doing it. I do have an old whiplash injury and i sit ALOT at the computer. This might explain why i get 2-3 weeeks of a spike when i try stretch my neck.

    PART 2 (see part 1 below) Was only for like 0,5-1 second but it was like someone stabbed my ear. Pretty sure i got an instant spike because of it.

    Orange01 THIS is exactly me. Ive figured the last "panic attack" that i had phonophobia. Just remeber that i have it when i hear a "loud sound" actually cancels the panic mode for me to know that i just "use my brain wrong" and this have worked VERY well over this 2 past weeks and as a result from that i barely had any long lasting spikes.

    Yeah exactly, I think I've realized this too. The more I'm scared of the sound the more likely I will spike. There seems to be some correlation there.

    PART 1 Was watching a video about sound treatment in a room and i went into a calculator to see what HZ are being generated with certain room sizes. Didnt knew it actually played the sound when the mouse pointer howered over the Hertz icons so my computer speaker that generally are 50- 60 DB Screached out around 90-95 DB of the most unbearable sound ive ever heard.

    This day atleast i wasnt the clumsy one..... My coworker fell over 4 chairs stacked on each other right next to me. Loud bam when all the chair feel to the floor and i didnt see it since they were behind me, everyone started to applause and laughing, it was very loud. Trying to stay calm.

    Also to mention my Hyperacusis is WAAAAAAAY worse after stretching for some weird reason.

    ive always wondered if my TT is bc of muscle from just anxiety/OCD. I have been stretching for 2 days since i got a quite nasty spike that i had for 2 months. After i stretched my TT is like 8-9/10 instead of 6-7/10 and its been staying for days. Maybe my muscles are just messed up from all the stress from this condition after all these years???? Should ill keep stretching or just let it be is the question.

    Seems like the tinnitus is really flaring up now and mostly on the ear i hit with the rake. Im feeling very low at the moment and sad, im really struggling to find the tools how to make progress with both H and T that keeps spiking and i would say in the last 2 months it got like 20 % louder. :(

    How did this work out for you? It seems like those clumsy incidents are impossible to avoid, I do them to :(

    Urk im so clumsy. Was out in the shed with earmuffs to remove all the leafs that blow in during the winter. Stepped on a rake that went up with full force and hit my earmuff... Little bit panicky now since it was very loud on the plastic but hope it will not make a spike.

    How often do you use earmuffs? do you use earplugs as well?

    @Maruashen i use earplugs the most since they make the best "dampening effect", i use earmuffs if im gonna do small stuff and just wanna put something on "incase". It somehow didnt spike me more then a day even tho it was VERY loud. Its important you insert the plugs right

    Man im so frustrated. We got these old doors at my work that are "hard to close". You need to close it and then push very hard for it to stay closed. My IDIOT college was closing the door right next to me but instead of doing it the right way he takes and close it by just smashing it shut super hard creating a superloud BAM, i wasnt looking since i was talking to someone else. Anxiety is thru the roof!

    Yeah no one bothers to accommodate me with anything despite constantly reminding them to just be quieter around me.

    My tinnitus has been elavated for like 3-4 weeks now and i cant really find why it got louder. Ive had some misshapps happening but nothing extreme. i also feel a little bit "clogged" in my right ear where the spike is happening. Im getting less and less anxiety over "loud stuff" thats happening so thats good!

    When i was digging without earplugs i hit a stone extremly hard with my shovel and it made a superloud KLING sound... Im trying to just "go with the flow" more now and not go into panicmode everytime i hear something loud, i also try to not overprotect when i do normal not loud stuff (under 70 DB). Hope i dont spike, just wanted to do some relaxing gardening. -.-

    Its hard to do stuff in the garden atm. Need to cut stones with a grinder so i have had my dad come to cut them for me since its to loud for me. Tried drill and use a chisel but got around 110DB so i didnt dare to challenge it. Third time my dad is here now to help me cut for like 2-3 minutes each time... Man he most think im supersilly.

    Ive actually had 2 days of VERY calm and good tinnitus. Ive even manage to hammer down conrete stuff that you walk on with a rubber hammer (ofc with earplugs) and no spike! So nice being outside in the warmth and do "labour" and just be able to be to good use for once! :)

    Urk. I was outside walking with a coworker and they saw someone on the other side of the street so the one next to me litterally yelled STRAIGHT INTO my ear at the top of hes lugns for the other person to come join us. I reminded him to not do like that and he just brushed it off with "oh i forgot". Think i got a spike from it. Was wearing my 35 DB earplugs luckily enough. Anyone experience something similair?

    I've noticed from your comments that you seem very alert. I don't blame you. Ive been there. But with the "guard up" all the time, it makes it quite difficult to navigate through this. An auditory system thats is on the alert constantly, will also tune in pretty much any sound and consider it a threat.

    @MindOverMatter it seemed to "spike down" fast back to baseline. I 100% agree that im on the "alertness" more or less all the time. Its hard because everytime i havent been on "alert" ive done something stupid and ended up with a louder baseline of tinnitus :/

    I get you @Sodlin I get you, as I know how it is, but there is a difference between hypervigilance and being "smart" around soundscapes that might upset you. Being hypervigilant around sound usually make our reaction to the sound worse.
