    Tinnitus, As I See It

...hearing therapist. They rarely encounter patients with my type of tinnitus. Since 2012, I have been habituated to my tinnitus and take clonazepam as needed—usually for one or two days a month, then I stop. I consider myself habituated. For a better understanding of what I mean by...

Abraham Shulman Tinnitus Protocol (Clonazepam Plus Gabapentin)

I take it daily. I had been taking 2 mg per day, which is the same dose I took from 1999 to 2005, and then again briefly from 2010 to 2011. I am now down to 1 mg per day. I would say that as the dose has decreased, there has been the usual difficulty that comes with benzodiazepine tapering. I...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

Hello Nick, I had positive experience with Clonazepam 0.125 mg + Gabapentin 300 mg per day. I tried this for a short period, like 5 days, and it works. I was tempted to try the Deanxit + Clonazepam combo prescribed to me so I stopped the Gabapentin and switched to Deanxit. I upped my Clonazepam...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

...then it's only Diazepam, as it has a very long half-life. They would never prescribe short-half-life medications like Lorazepam or Alprazolam. Clonazepam also has a long half-life, so it is less addictive and has efficacy in tinnitus treatment. Zopiclone is also only prescribed for a few weeks.

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

A lot of people take Clonazepam for years with no issues. If you come off gradually, then there really isn’t an issue. It’s when you stop cold turkey that it’s a problem and even then, if you’re only taking like 1 mg, nothing will happen.

Now, I basically just look forward to taking Clonazepam twice a week, but then I have to deal with the crash and subsequent depression the day after. It's like riding a rollercoaster every week, and it's not...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

There are past posts from members who stated they needed 30 mg or even more of Mirtazapine to sleep, after lower doses didn't help. https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/45-mg-of-mirtazapine-doesnt-help-me-sleep-%E2%80%94-need-advice-for-my-disabling-tinnitus.49095/post-652507 That's probably...

Sudden Hearing Loss Gave Me Tinnitus and Took My Life Away

Clonazepam is no longer amazing. I couldn't stick to "once or twice a week," and it's lost effectiveness. The first time I took it, I fell asleep in the afternoon, which I haven't been able to do since before this started. The second time I took it, I had a couple of drinks, and I remember...

In Loving Memory of Brian Jordan Pariente (Brian P)

@Frayact, Brian started to take Clonazepam, just 4 weeks, very low dosage. He stopped it cold turkey and shortly after he started to experience nasty withdrawal symptoms (hallucinations, as far as I remember). Then he reinstated Clonazepam for 6 weeks and tapered. I recall him saying that while...

My doctor is also a psychiatrist, so definitely has experience with benzos, which makes his comment more confusing.

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

All I know is I'd still have a livable level of tinnitus and some sound tolerance if I hadn't been pushed to take Clonazepam everyday. You probably build tolerance and get worse. I would stay away from all drugs if I were you. If you can live without drugs and eat a low inflammation diet and...

I am taking Clonazepam more regularly now but am monitored closely by my doctors to help prevent becoming addicted to it or experiencing unpleasant side effects. If...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

I asked my doctor about Clonazepam and he refuses to prescribe it unless it's for epilepsy or end of life. He said it's much more addictive than Alprazolam which surprised me.

@Leila on a good note after taking 0.5mg of Clonazepam as a last resort slowly over Thurs afternoon I calmed down, slept great and had a whole day the next day of feeling 90% normal. I’m wondering if crossing over to Clonazepam is the way to go in the short term bc returning to Grandaxin has me...

Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOs, TCAs, TeCAs)

Yes, clonazepam is addictive, like all benzodiazepines, but clonazepam is probably less addictive due to its long half-life, and doctors often switch patients to clonazepam from other benzos to wean people off benzodiazepines.

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

Many lives have been lost and ruined by benzos; especially tinnitus sufferers who made the mistake of being on Clonazepam daily. I am stuck at 1.5 mg daily and I have worse tinnitus than I could have ever imagined being able to live with. I wish more people were like you and advocated for...

Abraham Shulman Tinnitus Protocol (Clonazepam Plus Gabapentin)

This is not necessary an answer to your question, but I've been on Clonazepam for 3 years now (0.3 mg at first, 0.7 mg now) and while my tinnitus was mild back then, it's now a terrible nightmare of multiple tones including a loud low hum, an unmaskable static and 2 high pitched pure tones. I...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

It could be a bit of a journey tapering off daily Clonazepam, but a worthy endeavor most likely. There are good resources out there for tapering schedules, and from 0.5 mg you shouldn't have TOO far to go. Experiences seem to differ significantly. From no problem to quite bad. I can relate...
