I take 2x 200mg Ibuprofen without a problem, when needed. It actually helps when my ear feels inflamed and like burning. Everyone's body chemistry is different. Hope you are feeling well.

Congratulations! If given the choice, I would avoid Ibuprofen.

If you have pains use turmeric as it's great for pain relief. I recommend using NAC or getting trobalt asap as it may help stabilise your condition before it gets worse. Yours may not be permanent, but I'm afraid nobody can say for sure. Good luck.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled out, they gave a prescription for ibuprofen. Took 400 mg two to three times a day for 3-4 days if I recall, and no change in tinnitus. Here's a good thread about pain meds and tinnitus...

ibuprofen + codeine is on the T cause list, so I wouldn't bet on it to improve T if it in fact can create T. I did quite some amounts of ibuprofen + codeine in the months prior to my T. I can only speculate to what extent it contributed, but it's always on the list of potential T creators.

@glynis, thanks, yes, I know now that Ibuprofen can cause tinnitus and I assume a tinnitus spike as well. I was taking just one in the morning. I already had tinnitus when I started on the Ibuprofen and I had stopped long before the spike. It's possible I suppose but with my 40 dB mid-high...

I think you're going to be fine. Ibuprofen usually doesn't cause permanent harm.

Stick to Paracetamol, 1000mg a time, for more "regular use" with pain. Avoid NSAIDs and ibuprofen. IMO. Especially NSAIDs, such as Voltaren, have a history of potentially triggering tinnitus.

did you rupture your eardrum with the q-tips? looks to me like your use of ibuprofen is the real cause.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but what are the chances of getting permanent tinnitus from 200 mg tablets of Ibuprofen taken like, once or twice a month? The information I'm finding on this is shoddy at best.

Yes low dose is safe... ibuprofen causes tinnitus easily.. as does aspirin and naproxen.

I agree with @GregCA that it probably wasn't the Ibuprofen. Knowing about your sport injury might help. Besides from your actual injury are you experiencing any other problems, such as a sore neck, sore jaw, sore anything?

Originally voted haven't taken any, but recently took some Ibuprofen. Meds usually have a short lived effect on me but it actually made my tinnitus lower for a bit.

Quite a strange study. I've taken Panadol without any risk to Tinnitus, but don't touch ibuprofen.

And I do not mean only ibuprofen but any other medicine that's on our banlist.

Welcome to the forums. Yeah ibuprofen can be ototoxic, but it's actually pretty rare. How long were you taking it? It usually would have to be over a fair amount of time to damage the ears with ibuprofen. But it isn't unheard of.

...reply. I did not rupture my eardrum as I had my ears checked a bunch of times after and the Doctors all said my ears looked perfect. But I also do believe Ibuprofen is a culprit. I also had to take some when I got my wisdom teeth pulled not knowing there were ototoxic affects until recently.

Well, the GP told me to take 400mg of ibuprofen 3x/day for 10 days because he thought I might still be inflammed from an infection. The morning after the 10th day, I woke up to T...:eek:
