If you are able to stop or change your Tinnitus through external stimulus to your ear, as you describe, you may have a curable condition called a myoclonus. Go to a specialist ASAP. They can help verify if what you are experiencing is subjective or objective.

If it's the bones in the middle ear it should be audible by an outside person aka your primary Doctor. This is not tinnitus if you truely have muscle and bone spasms it's called myoclonus, and it's treatable today! Go see you doc. And a good chiropractor.

Mine have improved a lot. It didn't cross my mind at first. Someone else mentioned that their ENT said it would though, due to the stimulation of the trigeminal nerve.

TTTS is supposedly more likely to produce objective tinnitus due to the size and attachment of the muscle involved. Stapedial myoclonus is less likely to produce an objective tinnitus, because it is much smaller and has a different attachment. Both muscles are found in the middle ear.

@Kevin08 yes I was diagnosed with stapedial myoclonus I've tried muscle relaxers but didn't seem to make a difference ( granted I tried a low dose and only for about 4 days) I found that magnesium has helped I've had it for 4.5 months.

Also by the way, have they talked about botoxing the muscle? I know a lot of people on here and everywhere hate the idea of botox because it is a toxin. If I had Palatal Myoclonus I wouldn't mind trying botox. I have had it before for other reasons and didn't have any side effects.

If the noise is triggered by lifting you would not hear it in your sleep. Muscle spasms in your neck and around your ear can cause sharp clicking sounds. Also there is a condition called stapedium myoclonus that can cause this clicking in your ear. You could try researching that.

@truesilence sorry that you're having such a rough time but if you hear a clicking sound it's most likely stapedial myoclonus. You can goggle it more and they even have sample sounds online so you can compare if the noise you hear it's the same. Best of luck :)

Middle ear myoclonus can cause tinnitus sounds, both continuous and discontinous. Peripheral nerves from, say, the neck can cause the nerve to make the muscles spasm just like problems in the brain can.
