Every day, disastrous—and likely illegal and criminal—decisions are being made by Donald Trump and his allies, including his associate Musk. I am working on a three-step plan to escape the terrible damage being done to this country.

First, two months from now, I will be living in Corpus Christi, Texas. After testing the waters there and brushing up on my Spanish, I plan to head to Mexico for a while. Eventually, I will make my way to Costa Rica, a place I should have moved to forty years ago instead of Hawaii.

This country will never fully recover from two Trump presidencies.

In New York City, the Trump administration is taking over the 7 billion dollar reconstruction of Penn Station, which is owned by Amtrak, the federally chartered railroad company that owns the train hub underneath Madison Square Garden. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says his agency will save taxpayers more than $100 million. NYS Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat who is often at odds with Trump, called this "long overdue" makeover a major victory for New Yorkers.

The MTA was originally awarded a $72 million Federal-State Partnership (FSP) Program grant in November 2024 to lead the station's reconstruction under the Biden administration. According to Duffy, the MTA has a history of waste, inefficiency, and mismanagement, and a new approach is needed. The switch is a win for all New Yorkers, as well as workers and tourists who commute to and from NYC.

I know if I want to help main street, I demolish their 401(k)s. Then I take away as many federal benefits as I can as quickly as possible: Their Social Security. Their energy assistance, their federal education assistance…

But the most important part is to just impulsively disrupt the global economy **without having any clearly articulated plan or objectives**.

It seems that hatred toward trans people and fearmongering about immigration are the topics of the day. None of that helps the economy. It hurts farmers and damages Silicon Valley.

Very few people have genuine hatred toward trans people. They deserve equal rights, but not rights that go beyond those of others. Until recently—over the past 15 years or so—trans and similar gender minorities generally insisted that their private lives were nobody else's business. That perspective seems to have changed significantly.

Hiring illegal immigrants at extremely low wages, while expecting taxpayers to cover their expenses, is not something I believe should be supported, let alone encouraged. There are far better ways to assist farmers than by relying on undocumented workers. If something is illegal, and our elected officials support it, then there is clearly a serious problem with how our country is being governed.

On the White House "Presidential Actions" webpage, on April 28, 2025, President Trump outlined executive orders titled Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens. One important section of the document focuses on the principle of Equal Treatment of Americans, responding to a trend in recent years of policies that favor undocumented immigrants. For example, some communities offer in-state tuition to non-citizens, while denying it to American citizens from other states. These types of policies need to be addressed through legal means, and President Trump has made it a clear priority.
