Trump's trade approach seems to revolve around randomly announcing policy decisions without any clear analysis or articulated plan. There is no explanation of what the underlying problem is or what the intended outcomes should be. At the same time, he frequently insults, criticizes, and disrespects allies and trading partners. This behavior makes it much harder, and far less appealing, for those countries to work with him on any kind of mutually beneficial solution.
By acting this way, he is effectively encouraging other nations to collaborate with one another to create new trade routes that exclude the United States. These new alliances are based on stability, mutual respect, and shared benefits.
Meanwhile, China has been strategically preparing for a trade war. Trump, on the other hand, appears to have no coherent plan at all.
When anyone questions his actions, his typical response is something like, "What? Do you think I'm going to tell you my plan? What are you, stupid?" And predictably, his supporters fall in line.
This behavior has become so consistent that it feels like a syndrome. Why do so many seem to suffer from what might be called Trump Felico Syndrome? Why do they idolize him so intensely? Is it contagious, or is it simply a bizarre initiation ritual required to join the cult of personality?
