I'm getting a hearing test and having some custom earplugs made on the 9th of July. It's at an Audibel hearing center.

At the risk of sounding paranoid, is there any risk involved in either of these procedures? The plugs will cost "$60 each" (per plug or per pair, I have no idea) and the hearing test is free.

This will be the first audiogram since before my tinnitus worsened. I have TTTS combined with Miso/Phonophobia, which may be progressing into hyperacusis.

The lady at the desk said the test is not very loud, but I just want to be sure.

Maybe take some anti-inflammatory pills (multivitamins, Curcumin, L-Arginine, NAC, Magnesium, algae oil) before and after the test @aot. I had a hearing test a month or so ago and got a new sea shell sound afterwards. I thought I was a goner (already have multiple tones). So I went straight to home, took the pills ASAP (the ones between brackets) and it slowly faded away. It was a hail Mary but it did the trick. Wish you all the best with your test!

Well, I guess it's about I joined the supplement club. Any risk with these?

Are you going to have a pure tone audiometry? I don't think there is danger in that. In hindsight, I would refuse to do the loudness tolerance threshold test if your hearing test contains it.

Also, tympanometry. Maybe just the tympanometry is not that dangerous, but when I had it, it was paired with an acoustic reflex test, and boy, that was loud. Not for long, and not for MRI level loud, but uncomfortable. Last time I went to audiology, I refused to undergo tympanometry and the ART.

I had two tests done since I’ve had T and I didn’t have any issues but I know some people have been affected by it. Do you know what type of test is it?

I haven’t heard about anybody having issues with getting their moulds done for custom plugs though.

Welcome to the club, I guess;)Well, according to my doc it's ok, but you also need to consider your diet. NAC, L-Arginine, algae oil (omega 3), and multivitamins are fine and dandy on a daily basis. Magnesium depends. If you eat a lot of greens, it is not necessary, but I only take it for special occasions like going to the dentist or audiogram test just to be sure.

I got a new distortion sound after custom fitting but it could be because they push the mold into the ear and therefore so does the wax. I get my ears checked tomorrow since I still have the wax in my ears so hopefully the new sound/distortion leaves.
