Tinnitus Since
11/2008
Hi all. I'm Marcini and I'm new here though certainly not new to the wonderful world of tinnitus. In my case it was caused by noise exposure; too many rock concerts and night clubs. After being hit with the tinnitus I took it upon myself to do a bit of research and educate myself and went out and got myself some custom fitted 26dB attenuating earplugs. Sadly the damage was already done and despite the earplugs a few more years of loud venues would cause an onset of mild hyperacusis. Now I've knocked that life on the head and thankfully the T has gotten no worse (except for the usual joys of the spike) and the H is much improved on the pain front with only the "reactive T" element of the H now bothersome. Anyway that's the brief version of my story.

I'm a long term reader on this great site but first time poster. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to some conversations.

Hi, Marcini, and welcome!

We're glad you've joined us, and look forward to your contributions.

I know what you mean about the reactive part of tinnitus. I still have that myself, and wish I could find a way for it to just go away! Mine reacts to certain sounds, including television.

Look around the forum, and you'll find lots of great information.

Best wishes,
Karen

Thanks for your kind welcomes. I think the reactive element is far worse than the constant ringing in many ways. At least we can habituate to the classic high frequency T but the reactive element is so much more unpredictable and difficult to mask. Right now it is fine, and long may it continue that way, but I know it will be coming out of its box to play before long. Getting enough sleep is the best "cure" I have ever managed to managed to come up with. Its a crazy world.

Welcome, Marcini ... glad you decided to join and contribute! This is such a helpful site, and since it seems that most doctors lack both knowledge and compassion, we are the best resource for each other.
Best wishes,
Della

Welcome aboard Marcini,

Always nice to see a reader join up and get involved.

Over the last 2 years or so mine has become reactive and it's a complete pain in the backside, so I sympathise entirely. I can make sounds that help it but when trying to watch movies, listen to music etc it's unpredictable to say the least.

Steve
