This is basically a more potent version of keppra, 10 times more potent. It works on the KV3.1 potassium channels, so is the same target as Autifony's new drug but is in phase 3 and been tested for 8 years already, so should be out sooner and could potentially help with tinnitus.

"Sudies conducted by Prof Len Kaczmarek’s group at Yale University suggest that Autifony’s Kv3 modulators may help to restore the timing of firing of neurons in the auditory brainstem important for central auditory processing."

Here's what I don't get only 2 million people in the U.S, have epilepsy...Yet 50 million have tinnitus, so why nothing for tinnitus!? It's a bigger business yet nothing!? I honestly, don't get it. There's so many drugs for epilepsy, not even one for tinnitus!? I am so confused, honestly.

chronic debilitating tinnitus is rare! epilepsy worse.

      epilepsy gets money, tinnitus not

Here's where good old capitalism might eventually come to our aid. As soon as any of these first drugs hits the market and starts making some money, hopefully everyone will see the potential and the storm of drug research will ensue.

      that's bs

10 mil may have experienced temp tinnitus but 10 mil wont have chronic (twenty four hour seven days a week) tinnitus

approximately 100,000 - 300,000 uk people will have DEBILITATING chronic tinnitus. ask BTA or anyone

Still a large figure for an illness.

About one in ten adults in the UK have mild tinnitus and up to 1% have tinnitus that affects their quality of life.

      Hi Danny Boy,

@Danny Boy why is it factually you think this drug will reduce T and not H only?

      Thx

It could help with h maybe, but I can't say that it can, as I haven't tried it and since my h is gone, I can no longer test it. I say it can help with tinnitus as it's the same target as Autifony's drug and is far more potent vs keppra.

Yep, and it'll be out maybe this year or next...still less waiting time vs Autifony.

Possibly. I think I had tinnitus far longer than before 2012; however, I didn't really know what it was, didn't pay attention to it but more than that I didn't think something was wrong so it never really bothered me. Then in 2012, once I really noticed it, then it became a problem for me.

      Good find though, Danny!

Its the same for me. I've had tinnitus for a long long time. The only times I really noticed it is when I got my hearing tests done in total silence. Since my hearing has been declining quickly, but really its slowly over time, my body had time to adjust absorb and habituate. It was only 6 months of stress that gave me H and loud T. H is gone, but T now remains. I'm pretty sure its the same tinnitus I had before I got stressed, but I'm now noticing it all the time. I think for people with T it takes a traumatic event, or maybe something in my head broke, to bring about louder tinnitus, which they will then notice and bother them. I'm still trying to figure out how to get to where I was before. The weird thing is I went a long time with hearing loss in the -50 to -100db range without really noticing it. Some people get hearing loss of -30db only in the 8k range and it hits them. So yes, you can have really bad hearing and tinnitus and ignore it for a long time. I guess this is what makes it so difficult to fix.

Hm, hearing loss scares me, as my tinnitus could get louder...That's why I chickened out of AM-101...Because it could make it worse.

Can't blame you. It does penetrate the eardrum, doesn't it?
