MDMA trial update:
Day one yesterday of MDMA trial for managing Tinnitus. A Long day at the University for me, first up I took the pill, placebo or maybe the real thing, no one allowed to know, blood pressure checks half hourly, and then every 40 minutes, forms to fill in on level of T at that very moment , probably had to do that 5 times over 6 hours. I did get a bad headache and felt a bit light headed during the first hour, but considering I was soooo tired from only snatched bits of sleep in the week leading up to the first day of the trial, (that could be why) as no sleep meds allowed and none allowed from now on until 25th of April, that is to cover the 2nd day of the testing. No Alcohol from now until the 25th April either. They will let me no the results of the research later. NEXT update after April 20th Folks. Cheers Fran

Geez why hasn't there been anymore studies or trials using use Brivaracetam ?

 

For tinnitus? Because nobody cares about us it seems...

 

Yes for T ?.....That research dates back as far as 2003 ....Why bother do studies and then not proceed I don't get it

 

Brivaracetam isn't for tinnitus, it's for epilepsy...But the possibility of it treating tinnitus is quite high.

 

That my point @Danny Boy you have all that data that can be applied to other diseases and yet nothing gets done...very disappointing

 

Well, maybe we can get it off-label.

Because they've applied for a licence in Europe and America.

 

Belgian pharma company UCB has filed its investigational drug brivaracetam for approval to treat epilepsy in both the US and EU.

Both the US FDA and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have accepted brivaracetam for review as an adjunctive therapy for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in epilepsy patients over 16 years of age.

Dr Iris Loew-Friedrich, chief medical officer and executive VP at UCB, commented: “Today is a major milestone for brivaracetam and an exciting day for everyone at UCB who is committed to its development.

“It is also an important time for the clinicians and patients whose involvement in brivaracetam clinical trials has been so important in helping up to address the need for new treatment options for adult patients who do not achieve partial-onset seizure control with current antiepileptic drugs.”

The filings are supported by data from three phase III studies, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of adjunctive brivaracetam in a 5-200mg daily dosage in patients with uncontrolled partial-onset seizures.

A fourth phase III study evaluated the safety and tolerability of adjunctive brivaracetam given to patients with the same symptoms.

The filing is a major milestone for UCB as it pursues its goal of building its epilepsy business following the loss of patent for Keppra in the US and EU in the past few years.

The company has since turned to other drugs in its epilepsy portfolio, including Vimpat (lacosamide). At the end of last year UCB announced a partnership with Daiichi Sankyo to bring Vimpat to Japan.

Apparently it is a Belgian pharmaceutical making this medicine ... In the best dream possible I will call them, talk to them, get it it off counter and be cured! ... than will book a flight to a deserted island and listen to the waves for immeasurable amount of time ... I will give them a call this week!

Do they say what more this drug offers for epilepsy than other existent anticonvulsant drugs?

 

Basically, we're hoping this will be an early Autifony drug.

reading this information I carefully conclude 2 things.

1. it takes YEARS for these drugs to come to the patients. They were speaking about phase 3 in 2007 and 2009. We are 6 years later.

2. The double blind controlled study started with milligrams in the range of nr`s like 5-50 ... I think the end nr was 200 mg daily. This makes me believe that Autifony also might start very low and therefor we have n`t yet heard of or maybe won`t hear of any positive effects soon. On the other hand it still gives hope that if they find the sweetspot it might be that AUT00063 is the drug we all been waiting for.

I sent UCB an email today and asked to speak to one of their people considering a few topics. I will keep you informed.

Trials take an awfully long time...Which is why you better hope Autifony's drug get's fast-tracked or something.

Not yeah, we'll found out later this year. I think most people got the placebo on here, sadly.

 

Danny I'm not talking autifony but brivaracetam.

 

Oh, sorry. Of course there's no evidence it's not being made for tinnitus. But since it works on the same target as Autifony there's some potential it can off label, like trobalt. Hopefully, this will be a permeant reduction or cure.

 

If brivaracetam is safer then Trobalt and easier to obtain then I too will try it

 

I'm not too optimistic about drug 'sequels' that promise to be X times more effective than previous ones.
I mean, look at trileptal and lyrica... They both promised better effectiveness and a safer side-effect profile yet doctors still prescribe tegretol and gabapentin by the ton.
Getting a new promising drug is good but we must wait for some actual 'real-life' results before doing anything with it. Drug companies will create hype for their products (i.e 10 times more effective) but that's what they usually do.
