BTA Increases Estimate of People Living with Tinnitus

Headline today says the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) is increasing their estimate of people with tinnitus from 1 in 10 to more than 1 in 8. I don't like hearing that more people suffer with this, but maybe it will open some eyes that this is an underserved condition. I hope this encourages researchers and med tech companies to invest more time and money into treatments and cures. There is absolutely money to be made in developing a successful treatment/cure.

A couple of researchers I have spoken with have all confirmed this number is closer to 30% and will continue to rise as the baby boomer generation gets of age and as Gen X continues to age since we expose ourselves to more noise than any other generation.

Hopefully, this will lead to this condition and especially the need for actual medical treatments being taken more seriously.

 

This is a perfect situation for this quote, “You don’t dig a well when you're thirsty.” This is going to be a huge problem in the future and the demand for a treatment or cure will increase. Once there is a huge money incentive involved people will jump onboard.

 

Don't you mean when you are NOT thirsty. Otherwise this saying makes no sense to me. If you were thirsty and your only way to get something to drink, was to dig a well, one would......wouldn't they?

 

The statement is conveying that you want to solve the problem before it is a problem. You dig a well when you're not thirsty so when you're thirsty you have a well. We should find a proper treatment or cure for tinnitus before it becomes and epidemic because when it becomes an epidemic it will be too late.

And I completely agree, but I don't see society feeling the same way, sadly.

 

If only certain organisations would just pull their heads out of their you-know-where, stop throwing money at BS bandaid/sham treatments and put it ALL into legitimate treatments.
