Constant Pain in the Left Ear

How long does it take, generally, for ear pain to subside?

It's not h. For some reason, the muffs I have will bother my left ear.

But ear plugs inflamed the ear canals. I don't know what to do. These choices are no choices.

What kind of plugs, PeteJ? Try one of the hi-fidelity ones, such As Alpine, or Vibes, if you are using foam, they are silicone, or silicone free for some. Might make a difference.

 

You don't know this, there is more then one H for the love of God. The whole ear could be allodynia-zed (pain to touch) because of this nerve damage.

Your problem is most likely hyperacusis related from your loud factory and noise exposure that you had for 4 years.

 

the first step to getting better is NOT to follow the TRT/white noise hearing aid devices audiologist recommend. They don't know anything about hyperacusis. The only thing to do is let your ears rest.

 

Foam: first 3M Classic. Didn't have a problem before t but then they were only worn sometimes. After t, inflammation. Switched to 3M Ear Soft. Eventually, inflammation again (ear canals).
I switched to just using Peltor X4A muffs and have left ear pain. For whatever reason, I only have an issue with the left ear from the muffs.

If I have h or something here is affected by h, I feel pain while wearing the muffs so I don't know how it all factors in.

 

Might be worth looking into the Vibes or one of the others, Etymotic, Alpine, Nonoise, etc....

I think it's more of a personal choice, all of them say 20-24db reduction, most are 20db. Do a google search on hi fidelity ear plugs, you should get lots of reading material. Alpine Race say 30db, but digging into their website further says 20db for most ranges and 30db at 8,000kh, but I don't buy that as all the others are lower. Mind you they are designed for motorcycle use.

 

I am concerned about my ear pain. There is the odd crackling. Does anyone here know what that's about.

I need to stop wearing the muffs, too but then what?

I hope this is just temporary.

 

could be TMJ, could be the tiny little bones in the middle ear. Could be Something else?

See a doctor and ask about those possibilities, make sure they know your history of noise exposure at a loud factory.

I had the same thing, hyperacusis, fullness and crackling in the ear, my right ear which had a serious trauma. Sounds crazy, but try lying on your back, slowly and uniformly put your legs over your head... You can see this on YouTube... It for some reason stretches out my eustachian tubes and inner ear, helped me a lot.

My hyperacusis is always lurking, but with good diet, protection, and time... It will subside hopefully.

I still get the crackling... but not as bothersome... hope yours gets better soon...

 

I have seen Drs, GPs? Yes, a gp and they do nothing. If either of you meant, an ENT, I am still waiting.

I have. I asked three drs. All said no.

 

Why they say no? Why?

 

Because it's Canada and drs here think steroids are dangerous and don't see why they would be prescribed for ear issues.

You have to understand. So many people tried to get prednisone and it's other variations, but a lot of doctors refused and didn't see the point of it.

 

Where in Canada? I'm in Nova Scotia, not sure if it's the same here. I was prescribed cortosteroids for my ETD. Not sure if it's the same thing or not...

 

It helped to my ear pain a bit and after I started taking it my T levels have reduced.

Here it's common to prescribe prednisolon etc for acoustic trauma. I don't know if it worked for sure or was it just time that helped, but I am better now than before the medicine.

Yes... But of course I cannot be 100% certain if it was the medicine or just time doing its things. Anyway, I am glad it has improved, because of medicine or not.

I am willing to try anything if it makes this go away...

I read people's experiences here and it seems like 50/50 or at most, 60/40 of people claiming it worked for them or that they thought their t lessened after taking it. There are people who say they had little change if any or even saying their t spiked (temporary) after stopping it.

I think it's worth trying but lots of people say it's better to use immediately after acoustic trauma. It's hard to know (what to believe) but I think it sucks that drs flatly refuse. They don't even want to discuss it. That's my experience anyway.

 

Is it possible that my ear muffs aggravated my jaw and eustachian tubes and hence, the pain and crackling? I have no other theories but I sure am scared.

 

It took months before my constant 24/7 ear pain disappeared. If I still had it now, I'd be dead. I could see no sense in living the rest of my life with that kind of pain. It was stabbing, searing, throbbing pain that almost drove me mad because of its unrelenting presence. But people here told me to wait a year max, and so I did. It got better. Loads better. But I still get pain everyday, mostly because I like pushing myself to see what I can handle.

Sometimes I still get that pain, and I feel cold all over whenever I do. I feel terrified that this time, it would be permanent. But so far, it goes away after a few minutes.

The pain in my left subsided. Unfortunately, I have a new problem. My right ear has some pain but mostly there is a creaking noise and it feels like the ear is clogged or something inside is convulsing. I don't know how to describe it but honestly I feel like you did before. I am really scared. This is very uncomfortable when it happens. It's worse at night but happens throughout the day but the creaking doesn't seem to happen when I am outside.
