In line with the themes of favourite quotations, favourite books, favourite pieces of music etc…

      I would like to suggest:
      ‘Favourite Works of Art.’

      Here is one of mine.

      “TheEmbrace” by Egon Schiele.

      I adore this painting.

In my imagination, this poor guy is suffering from severe tinnitus, and his loving partner is soothing his head with her gentle caresses.

      Hi ladies and gentlemen.

If we get enough contributors and support this could become a great thread which introduces us to many new artists.

      Keep it up folks.

Ey Steph, that's a plethora of different styles, but which seems to draw most of your attention or interest as an art historian?

All of them Christiaan. I don’t have a favourite style, but if I had to choose an era for art and architecture, I would probably say the late 19th to early 20th century. :)

I was lucky enough to study in Austria. It was there I fell in love with the graphics and prints of the Secessionist movement - especially Koloman Moser’s work (as above).

Do you have a favourite style or era?

Ah alright, Steph! I also like arts dating from that era. I actually love French culture in large part because of post-impressionism (especially paintings by De Toulouse-Lautrec, Cézanne & Bonnard). If you ever want to visit Lille by Eurostar & you're a big fan of (post) impressionism, you should definitely go to Le Palais des Beaux-Arts. They have tons of those great artists, even Van Gogh!

These art works are very beautiful. Secessionism is a genre I've never heard of before. But, it does look very familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. The first painting is just a one of a kind, very unique! The 2nd one reminds me a bit of Jugendstil (hint of flower patterns), while the last one reminds me a bit of Art Deco (focus on geometric shapes). Certainly an eye-catcher!

Two of my favourites (among many) in in my collection:

Salvador Dali - Portrait of my (dead) brother. Depicting a young JFK who Dali felt an affinity for, and was inspired by.

Magnus Gjoen - Darkness of Life is Living Death

      +

William Unger - Madonna with halo, after the original by Pietro Vanucci, the old renaissance master. The last one is no longer in my collection though (sold).
