Hi, I have lived with tinnitus for the past 22 years, probably caused by surgery for a benign brain tumour.
I woke in the middle of the night at home after surgery and thought the radio had been left on.
T is worse some days than others, right now it has gotten worse over the last few days.
      I'm not sure why.

Hi @Joan T , and welcome. I am sorry to learn of your tinnitus, but you have come to the right place.

As @fishbone stated, this is a wonderful forum. It is filled with kind, sympathetic, caring people who are always willing to help, provide comfort, and support.

Tinnitus is difficult. Everyone experiences it differently. And, sadly, the symptoms can get worse, suddenly (that is what brought me to this forum initially). What I can say though is there is hope. If you have not yet, read through the success stories. Many of our community have had their symptoms clear up, or have learned to habituate (learn to ignore) them.

It will get better. And, as said before, you are in the right place.

I wish you well and hope you find what you need here.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Are there any specific ways to help reduce T? It has become really loud starting from when I wake up. There's NO peace except when I'm fast asleep and even that has been affected as I'm not sleeping well.

When my T was loud, I found amitriptyline (10 mg) helped me sleep. It is non-addictive and I would not feel drowsy the next morning.

      Hi @Joan T

You could try getting a referral to see an Audiologist or Hearing Therapist for help with tinnitus management. One avenue to pursue, is the wearing of white noise generators. By setting the level of the white noise "below" the tinnitus not masking it or covering it up, sometimes brings relief.

Please click on the link below and read my article: Tinnitus, A Personal View.

Hope you get some help soon.

      Hi Joan T,
      Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
You could have a chat with your doctor about a low dose AD like Nortryptaline or Amitryptaline that can reduce tinnitus for some people.
Cinnarazine 15mg helps Menieres and can reduce tinnitus for some people also.
      Love glynis

Some things work for some people, but nothing works for everyone.
You can try different things: meds, sound therapy, acupuncture, massages, surgery (depending on what your root cause is), electrical stimulation, magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation...

I have tinnitus for 20 yrs. but the last 6 months it has become unbearable. I started acupuncture a few days ago. Don't know if it works but I'll do anything now. Have tried vitamins, anti-depression medicine, etc.
Has anyone else tried acupuncture? I'm praying that it doesn't make it worse. Only had one session and doctor says i should have about 12.

      Hi Joan
My T has also worsened in the last couple of months and has become a bit more highpitched I find if I sleep with tv on at low volume it levels out a little bit and I tend to concentrate on the sound of the tv while falling asleep instead of listening to my ear.

I tried acupuncture but found it very hard to lay there for an hour and it didn't seem to help at all..
