Having had a career around construction I am more than accustomed, I just write far more politely.

@glynis really happy to have you moderating. I know you will be fantastic at it, just like you have been on FaceBook. If anyone is rude to you I will track them down and make them pay :)

I was raised not to swear either but my dad abused in a different way!

I guess the puss has to come out somewhere. The sooner the better. That’s why I like Glynis, she doesn’t judge too much.... ;-)

Indeed, Glynis doesn't judge too much but alas, most of the people in this world do. Out in the real world people judge us even before opening our mouth. Our attire is first look upon and they are judging if we are smart, look clean etc. The moment we speak they form an opinion on our "class" one's accent. As you well know our country is built upon a class system. Once a person hears profanity and they don't use it they'll quickly distance themselves from you.

      All the best
      Michael

Bassplayer,I have never heard that saying before and made me smile.
I don't judge to much as we are all as important as eachother and our views are equally important.
However I am firm and fair when trouble pops up .

Well the way I currently see it (and I’m happy to learn and move on from my current beliefs if need be), there is niceness and horribleness in every single person on this planet. Divide and conquer (stereotyping, categorising etc) is still the order of greed and control.

As we get older we begin to realise that to judge others is to judge ourselves.

Hopefully we all learn from this experience. Wouldn’t this world and life be brilliant if we got to the point we just appreciated what we have on this little planet. We wouldn’t even need to spend billions on a spacecraft to send a select crew to another planet.

Oh...sodding over on this side of the pond means big squares of grass(lawn) pre-grown being planted in a yard.

I will need the dictionary for England slang. Actually, I had a very good friend Roy Barlow who used to post a lot on the forums. He and I would talk on the phone many times. I never understood his lingo or jokes but his laughter made me laugh.

He passed away a few years back from ALS. He was a huge tinnitus advocate over in England. I miss him.

Ummm...puss over here usually means something very different...

That’s because when you guys got independence you changed the spelling and meaning of English! Lol :)

It is quite entertaining on both sides of the pond though. (we call it the Atlantic) ;-)

Well to get this back on topic...

Now I am afraid to express disagreement with a person in any thread. I mean non-confrontational but the opinion I may have that differs. Tinnitus does not have one single answer according to one person's experience.

I don't want to cause Glynis any stress.

I think that where tinnitus is concerned there is always going to be a flashpoint. People feel very strongly, often because they are suffering.

The secret lies in understanding that the heterogeneity of tinnitus makes it impossible to say anything for certain, there are always going to be groups poised at opposite ends of an argument. Moderating is sometimes about stopping them from trying to annihilate each other :)

I wouldn't be afraid to express disagreement with a person in any thread Starthrower. All the posts I have seen by you have been reasonable and respectful even when expressing disagreement - we ought to be able to express disagreement after all. I think what can annoy quite a lot of people is when someone tries to set themselves up as being a sort of tinnitus oracle - telling other members that they have to read their words of wisdom carefully and take notes etc! This sort of thing gets peoples backs up but these kind of individuals quickly become the subject of some ridicule!

I wouldn't worry about that. I have my assumptions about who you mean... :) @glynis has a thick skin and is more than prepared to deal with things if they get out of hand. Disagreements are part of any real dialogue anyways, and normally they don't need to be intervened with (and the forum would be pretty boring if only one type of opinion were allowed). But when they do, glynis won't hesitate!

      Welcome to the team Glynis!

      thanks Glynis for your time,
I am among a moderation team on an astronomy forum for those with an interest or passion for telescopes and stargazing, astrophotography etc, , lots and lots of people there, ''cloudy nights forum '' is probably the best run forum in the world due to moderation , even through words of disagreement and difference of opinions respect is of the utmost importance, even if not in person people must understand you are hurting someones feelings on the other end of the keyboard, all the best, KC

It is true that glynis has been a longtime contributor to the forum, with an advice and words of encouraging for everybody, no exceptions, so her entering in the forum staff is the most natural thing, the only surprise being why it happened so late.

What I know about you, @glynis, is compounded of bits of information, here and there, nothing in one place, so what would you say about writing a post in the "introduce yourself" section, with this occasion?

I don't think I am the only one curious about your whole story with Meniere's and tinnitus. I am sure it would be an interesting read for many.

When you have the time, of course.
