    So I went to the dr this week and she said I have fluid in my ears. Every time I go, they say this. Anyone else have fluid in your ears?

    Fluid is a functional part of the inner ear if I remember correctly. If so, everyone have it. :p

    I was told I had fluid in one ear after I coughed mucus into my eustachian tubes. When my ears felt less stuffy a few months after, the volume was down about 50%, this happened overnight. The e-tubes are the only way as far as I know for the inner ear to drain, so you might have some kind of malfunctioning tubes.

    Yes, do not wear protection. The noise coming from the inside of the mouth, it can just make things worse. And avoid the ultrasonic scaler. That tool makes a very high frequency loud noise… The problem is that most dentists use that tool fo scaling nowadays. Some dentists still perform manual scaling though. I would advise to try to find one in your area.

    I talked to a dentist in my neighborhood she said any dental hygienist could do a manual cleaning. It's the procedures that are tricky. She said to find one that uses laser equipment. I found one yesterday so I'm going to give them a call. Thank you for the info guys, it's helpful. I needed help to move forward.

    Laser wasn't an option for me, but drilling 3-5s on and 10-15s off helped a ton. No spikes. I also always did manual and not sonic cleaning. This helped with T a lot, though I never went to dentist while my HA was bad.

    Also took NAC but idk if that helped, and wore those big earmuff protectors. But most sound was from bone conduction. GL!

    I've met with my primary doctor a few times since my tinnitus and hyperacusis began. He shared he also has tinnitus, made me feel better.

    My mother has Tinnitus. Very severe, but she seems to have totally habituated.

    @aot my dad has it also, but it is faint and fleeting. He didn't realize he had it until I asked him about it. His sister, my aunt, also has hearing loss and tinnitus. There must be a genetic component.

    Thankyou. I don't know much about Estonia, but when I was 18 I had a girlfriend I cared a lot about and she went on summer vacation to Tallinn, that was the first time we were separated for a long time. She sent me a postcard from Tallinn and when she came back she called me and we were both crying happy tears. So I will always connect that memory to Tallinn. The only other time I hear about Estonia is Eurovision :p

    Our world is so small. :D Hope you are doing better. Very cool memories you've got. Those special memories that stay with you forever. Tallinn is small and quiet. I can't say that a tourist can find lots of things to do here but if you are tired from a big city and want to be in a more quiet place, take walks, sit in a cafe then this is it.

    I still have some NAC. I was exposed to some fireworks that went off behind my house last night. I saw that NAC was pulled, is it safe?

    @Wrfortiscue I was watching fireworks from inside through my window when someone set off fireworks behind my house. I was standing right by my window and it was pretty loud. I've had loud ringing all day long.

    Thanks everyone for the info. I researched NAC and there are some problems at higher doses and without the added protection of anti-oxidants. Although it can be helpful, the concern is some of the cells with problematic material can hang around too long and potetially cause issues in the lungs.

    @twa I rather think it's the opposite haha:) I'm actually jealous of your courage to watch a horror movie like A Quiet Place 2. I once watched The Thing when I was little and couldn't sleep for days on end. Since then I've tried to avoid such movies like the plague. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the movie!

    @Christiaan that was me as a kid too. I couldn't sleep for days if I saw a scary advertisement for a movie. I do like SciFi if it's not too bad.

    Sci-fi is a different story, haha:) I love it! Are you also waiting with eager anticipation for Dune? If it is as good as the book, I'd think it's going to be one of the best movies ever!

    Why do we get tinnitus and hyperacusis and other people have hearing loss, but not the other conditions?

    @twa Then there's genetics. Both my mother and grandmother suffer from tinnitus. So I guess some ears/brains are more prone to developing the phenomenon.

    This is why I support Dr. Rauschecker's research. He incorporates this into his model of tinnitus.

    Definately a cicada quality to the T today. I previously had very mild cicadas that I only noticed when I searched for the sound.

    So took the kiddo to camp yesterday. As I remember from being a camper and camp counselor it was very loud. After a good sleep, T seems ok.

    Kids birthday party with 20 screaming kids & adults talking loudly. I think I'm going to sit this one out. I'll miss seeing friends though.

    I'm glad I didn't go, they had a huge inflatable water slide and piñata. I've gone to about 80% of the parties, Dad can do 20%.

    Drove yesterday for the first time in 8 weeks. Vertigo and dizziness after the vaccines are better. Nice to have some independence again.

    @Deamon thank you! Maybe slightly better. The main change was that before the vax the T was going to static consistently. After the vax it was loud ringing. Ocassionally, it changes to static for a bit after 8 weeks.

    Has anyone attended classes with hyperacusis? What strategies helped you? I'm required to take a week long class at the university in July.

    @Stacken77 I appreciate the input. I think I remember you recently graduated??? My friend is a college professor and she is still teaching online classes for her school.

    @Damocles I have custom Westones. I'll take them and the filters. I'm still not proficient in which one is most appropriate for each setting. Sometimes, they start to get uncomfortable after a few hours. I'm might try and see if I can take breaks in wearing earplugs depending on the classroom environment after I get down there.

    @twa It is correct I recently graduated. Thankfully, the entirety of 2020 and this semester was taught from home due to covid. I acquired my T and H in October last year, so I never had to have f2f classes with these conditions.

    Oddly enough he's not sensitive to sound, he just has the loss. He was sensitive to sound when I was a kid and always told us to quiet down.

    @Martinf he has very faint T occasionally. He said he never noticed it until I mentioned it. He has significant hearing loss. We are quite a pair and it's almost comical to have a conversation. He is very loud and i have hyperacusis, but can't hear him because of my earplugs to protect from his loud voice.

    Working on my grad school application. I feel like with the pandemic, tinnitus/hyperacusis & dizziness at least I can focus on another goal!
