Originally voted haven't taken any, but recently took some Ibuprofen. Meds usually have a short lived effect on me but it actually made my tinnitus lower for a bit.

I have seen reports of ototoxicity with Ibuprofen. I generally don't worry about it because I use it sporadically, but given your long term use, there could be some causality there. I'm not sure that it would show abruptly like that, but if I were you I'd probably see if there is an alternative...

...reply. I did not rupture my eardrum as I had my ears checked a bunch of times after and the Doctors all said my ears looked perfect. But I also do believe Ibuprofen is a culprit. I also had to take some when I got my wisdom teeth pulled not knowing there were ototoxic affects until recently.

That's not an easy question to answer. If your tinnitus is not related to ototoxic drugs or infection then I would assume at least 200mg would be safe to take. Tylenol is purportedly more ototoxic than ibuprofen.

Do they help? How long have you taken them?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but what are the chances of getting permanent tinnitus from 200 mg tablets of Ibuprofen taken like, once or twice a month? The information I'm finding on this is shoddy at best.

Use a hot compress for the pain and medication also. You can take paracetamol with ibuprofen. ....lots of love glynis

Hi, thanks for your reply :) i've decided to stop the ibuprofen, I also take tylenol and have done for a couple of years, i'll see if I can cut that back (not sure if I'll be able to go totally drug free as the pain sometimes disrupts my sleep). Do you know whether tinnitus caused by drug use...

What helps with inflammation iv tried msm crystals, tart cherry and Ibuprofen and few others doc has supplied and nothing helps.

I've used acetaminophen and ibuprofen in the past without issues. I don't personally worry about it unless I have to deal with heavy doses.

From what I have read, yes , ibuprofen can cause T . In fact I was taking it pretty heavily when my T started .

Yes, Karen is correct. Any possible tinnitus from Aspirin/Ibuprofen/Acetaminophen is reversible once stopped especially in lower doses. 81mg is pretty low.

it's probably dose related issue... but i do know that ibuprofen depletes zinc and tylenol depletes glutathione; both of which are important to healthy ears.

Actually the main ingredient of Paracetamol is Acetaminophen here in the US...Ibuprofen I know may cause tinnitus but I think its dosage related...

We need both to have success and to be in every ENT clinic. Each one will fit better to different people, like paracetamol and ibuprofen...but not ototoxic please!

I find that taking NSAIDs causes my tinnitus to increase. In fact, I think that I have tinnitus because I over used Ibuprofen for my endometriosis pain. Anyone else notice this effect from NSAIDs?

Ibuprofen does not have the same effect on all cases of tinnitus. It aggravates some but not others. In my case, it doesn't affect my tinnitus.

Tinnitus Talk members likes to blow things out of proportions. There is nothing wrong with occasional Ibuprofen if you don't go over the maximum recommended dosage.

Well, yeah ...mine could have been caused by Benzo withdrawal, munching on boatloads of Ibuprofen during that withdrawal or noise exposure...or all three . Im kinda fucked. :)

Ibuprofen can cause tinnitus and know people and family that it did cause tinnitus for. The stronger dose on prescription has more danger to cause it. Love glynis x

Ibuprofen doesn't affect my tinnitus but it messes up my stomach, so I don't generally mess with it. Turmeric is good. Also marijuana, depending on where you live.

Naproxen and Ibuprofen are NSAIDs ("non-steroidal anti-inflammatories). Chemically they are not the same medication though. In layman's terms think of it this way: Ibuprofen is a sister to aspirin while Naproxen is a cousin. Naproxen seems to work better for inflammation than Ibuprofen, and...

Tylenol is supposed to be the safest of them. I have taken Ibuprofen in the past since tinnitus and haven’t had problems when taken in short time periods within the recommended dose.

Ibuprofen is considered bad for t, especially in repeated high doses. If your t is going pulsatile, start thinking about an ultrasound of the neck arteries and an mra.

I would recommend that you completely stop taking ibuprofen immediately. It's no good to the ears and could be possibly exacerbating your symptoms. Also I would check out: whooshers.com

How often are you taking paracetamol and/or ibuprofen? It seems you need to be taking it quite frequently according this report (and assuming they've done their sums right).

You're probably in good shape for remission. Lucky! I'd be surprised if Ibuprofen had something to do with it though, unless you took large amounts for quite a long time.
