Sudden Ringing After Sinus Infection and Loud Radio

Dental appointment done, and X-rays were taken. My tinnitus seems stable right now. I went in for a cleaning, but I steered the visit toward tooth discomfort instead. It turns out I have an infected tooth on the upper left molar, and I’ve been referred to a periodontist. The dentist prescribed...

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

I'm in my late 40s. 2 mg of Klonopin is roughly the equivalent of 40 mg of Valium (https://www.benzo.org.uk/bzequiv.htm). No one would consider that anything other than a really high dose (https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/diazepam/how-and-when-to-take-diazepam/). I'm not trying to be unhelpful...

I love how you went from "177 countries are stealing our lunch money" to a full crime-stat TED Talk in one reply. That's Olympic-level pivot. If crime is dropping, that's great news. Truly. Feels like something is simmering, though, that would kill that statistic. Hope I'm wrong...

My Tinnitus Makes Me Feel Mentally Incapacitated

I’m 25M and an engineer, at least that’s what my job title says. I never thought I was a very smart person. I’ve been depressed my whole life, which affects my memory and retention. I feel like Tinnitus takes up about 80 percent of my brain capacity. It feels like I’m incapable of learning...

Two Identical Noise Injuries, Two Very Different Outcomes — Wondering if Attention & Stress Played a Role

Welcome to the forum. Your experience with tinnitus is the opposite of mine. The first time, 10 years ago, when my ultra-high-pitched tinnitus and severe hyperacusis first hit me, I was in full panic mode. The brain treated it as a mortal threat. So it created havoc in my mental health, and it...

Constant Low-Frequency Rumbling Alongside Long-Term Tinnitus

Welcome to the forum. Others above have given you good suggestions. I agree the lower frequency humming tinnitus is maskable. Try using brown noise with many free apps to mask tinnitus. I find airplane cabin sounds pretty good with this. It can be bothersome at first, but you can habituate to...

    Skiing with Hyperacusis and Tinnitus

I’m going skiing in January, and I have mild hyperacusis. The main things I struggle with are the sound of wind and the scraping noise of skis on very hard or icy snow. I’ve tried earplugs, but occlusion makes things worse for me, and I end up feeling vibrations in my head much more strongly. A...

Major Relapse After Exposure to Smoke Alarms

I’m doing much better. As of about 1 week ago, I’ve reached phase 2 habituation. I’m unaware of my tinnitus more often than I’m aware of it, though periodically it will assert itself and I’ll notice it again. This sometimes happens when I hear trigger sounds like music, fans, or other low...

Persistent Tinnitus at 24 Triggered by Post-Surgical Medications (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Gabapentin, and Oxycodone)

Thank you, I'll be careful. I do sometimes get an uncomfortable feeling, but I am wearing them in the day, whereas at night, I guess you might have been tossing and turning when you were asleep, so that produced friction? I also am wearing (see photo) ones that don't plug up one's ears, so they...

Worried About Hearing Damage After Brief Chainsaw Exposure at 12 Meters While Passing By

I think @Sonia554 is very right in his or her answer, but sometimes when you’re down the rabbit hole, it’s hard to tell yourself “it’s fine,” especially when you’ve recently had damage from something you maybe thought was safe. When I briefly googled how loud a chainsaw can be, it seems it can...

Train Horn Exposure: Can It Damage Hearing or Make Tinnitus Worse?

It’s hard to know, right? I feel the same way. I don’t know whether my hyperacusis comes from the actual damage itself or from overprotection. When something happens, like a loud sound, I try not to take a step back in my habituation progress. I try to stay at the same level, relax for a set...

Major Relapse After Exposure to Smoke Alarms

How are you doing now? I’m sorry that you’re going through this again. The fact that you reached such a deep level of habituation before, to the point where it was gone for months at a time, says a lot about your nervous system’s ability to settle, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now...

Sudden Ringing After Sinus Infection and Loud Radio

Well, tonight seems a bit loud. Hopefully it calms down. I did my normal stack of Magnesium, L-Theanine, and D3 plus K2, but no Benadryl. I slept for about 1 hour, then woke up, and now it is a bit noisy. I have the sound machine going and the TV on, but the ringing seems louder.

I've had hyperacusis for about a year now. I think it may have developed from overprotection, although I'm not completely sure. Over the past year, it has fluctuated; at times, it's been worse, and at other times, it's improved. I understand that constantly measuring sound levels isn't ideal...

Good news on the US financial front @Luman. Trump says that his tariffs have brought in 17 trillion dollars! He is so smart; he makes our spending on world assistance quite trivial in comparison. Ah yes, the sacred denominator shuffle. When you say 4% of discretionary spending instead of 1% of the budget or 0.2% of the economy, the money suddenly feels heavier in your wallet, doesn’t it? Same dollars, more drama. Labeling Ukraine funding as “foreign aid” is doing some serious cardio...
