Probably not since they're both made by competing companies. A combination of OTO-413 and OTO-6xx is more likely. I'm thinking more along the lines of convincing an ENT to do it.

ibuprofen helps you? it is ototoxic... be careful lorazepam can cause or make tinnitus worse... be careful (taper off slowly if you stop...) you know tinnitus does get worse on it's own sometimes... nothing we can do about it! not necesarily a reason for it...you will feel better again

For anyone reading this thread, make sure you are taking cuyrcumin over Turmeric, as the high salicylate content may be what spiked this poster's tinnitus.

My T is due to LUVOX (SSRI) taken in 2007 and my increase is due to Clarithromycin (antibiotics) taken in 2014. So I know I need to be careful with ototoxic medication. I have taken ibuprofen several times in the past for migraines and headaches and it never increased my T.

Any update please? Personally I don't think Paracetamol is the culprit. Aspirin is more likely to be the culprit.

I had the same the other month. The ear canal is delicate and has been exposed to ‘trauma’, I was told I might get it and I did. It eventually healed after about 10 days. It’s a form of otitis externa but not infected, just inflamed. Ibuprofen will help.

I've had spikes from Ibuprofen and Naproxen a couple of times (had to take the drugs for inflammation). Just stop taking it, try to relax, and in a few days the spike will quiet down if the cause was really from the NSAID. I would not suggest taking a heavy drug like prednisone, that's asking...

Yea it was horrible. When it first started I didn't get must respite for the first couple of months. Then it eased off and only happened once every couple of months. I was taking a lot of Ibuprofen for it too. Nothing else helped, not even migraine meds.

Tinnitus is supposed to be a side effect of Ibuprofen but only if you take loads of it. I think normal dosages are fine and you say you only took a few doses. I have taken minimum doses and and it didn't increase my t. This is my own personal experience though.

Generally otoxic drugs can cause and worsen Tinnitus, now I'm not sure if it's one ibuprofen or a lot of them but I wouldn't risk it. I thought weed couldn't do anything and now I'm hearing some sounds louder probably because of the THC in my system. Don't risk it, not worth at all.

Just a quick one guys, this came up at a discussion last night. What kind of doses of say Ibuprofen would you need to be taking to see an Ototoxic effect like tinnitus manifest? I'm more of the opinion that you'd need to be taking high doses regularly (i.e.>400mg), is this the consensus?

I wasn't using headphones at all when tinnitus started, I was actually out of town. I've been a gamer my whole life with headphones, but my T started from taking Ibuprofen nearly a week after I was out of town/hadn't been using headphones.

With hesitation and concern I took Ibuprofen for ear pain in my good ear that might be caused by TMJ(still not sure the cause) and it reduced my T for about an hour. My ENT says I have a ton of inflammation in my T ear still from a bad infection that ruptired my ear drum.

To add, I have had a few (very few) days where it seems like my T is completely gone. However it comes back when I go to sleep and get up the next morning. Which leads me to believe that it wasn't the ibuprofen that caused my T, but something else... and that it could be reversible.

@Geo It took a full week for permanent T to settle in. I didn't even have ringing at the concert at all but I've figured out it was all muscle/tmj/inflammation since when I take muscle relaxers, ibuprofen, and steroids my ringing goes away along with the facial pressure and ear congestion!

Hi, and thanks for the nice words Sailboardman, Yep - I really wish I hadn't taken the damn ibuprofen, I certainly haven't taken any more. I actually had a crushing headache for 5 days before I got to the Doc who said sinisitus, so was gingerly taking paracetemol and ibprofen a couple of times...

So my doctor advised me against the ibuprofen and suggested I try Lyrica (pregabalin), which is an anti-spasmodic medication. I'll try that for a couple of weeks and, if it doesn't work, we'll try the prednisone. I'm also looking for a physio with a specialty in TMJ. Slept with a mouth guard...
