I sometimes think COVID-19 may have been a smoke curtain to disguise a world that is already bankrupt. It is the excuse for neverending stimulus packages.

 

Lol. The US has been bankrupt for a while. Some other posters make me "laugh."

"Biden is disappointing so far... too corporate... not doing enough." Do they mean the stimulus is too little? These complainers are whining about the stimulus not being enough, meanwhile no shouting or protesting about destroying the economy and small business, making businesses implement layoffs and killing jobs and on and on... but ma stimulus is not enooooof!

I guess Trump just let all this happen but Democrats and left wingers were mad at him for not destroying the economy fast enough!

Agreed, really? But, you clicked 'like' for the posts mocking and criticizing me or my perspective. Heck, they even used entertainment memes. That implied or suggested a degree of smugness. Leftists particularly like that method in interacting and communicating for some reason.

 

The only reason why I clicked like in those posts is that you still believe COVID-19 is a hoax and I agree on what posters such as @Ed209 have said about COVID-19.

If this is really a hoax, why the lockdowns then? If it really wasn’t that bad compared to Ebola etc, then they wouldn’t have lockdowns in the first place, but they did because COVID-19 is a contagious disease that is easily spread and could kill someone or someone would have suffered permanent side effects from it.

You were laughing at @Ed209's post about people dying from COVID-19 and showing a lack of empathy. I don’t know what it would take for you to believe that COVID-19 is real.

 

It would be one thing if he (Ed) were talking about people dying in a general sense but he was talking about people he knew personally. I would be *furious* if someone put a laugh emoji in response to my friends dying.

It's a lot harder to show empathy for someone who doesn't appear to have it for others.

I also don’t think @PeteJ has personally apologised to @Ed209 for using the laugh emoji when he stated he knew 9 people that died from COVID-19.

@PeteJ, if you knew someone personally who died from COVID-19, would you have used the laugh emoji then too, or do you only use it when it is someone else other than your family and friends who died from COVID-19?

 

It's certainly possible that some people were in that situation for some period of time, given how all this has played out, but rent moratoriums are not at all the same as rent forgiveness. That is, at some point, those people are going to get smacked with a large bill, so if they weren't paying rent or setting the money aside they were setting themselves up for misery.

 

We've been having a lot of fun with it on the Vermont Reddit, too, but I am just going to use this as an excuse to plug some local business.

I think there are some major divisions in the populace and I don't see the Biden administration doing anything to change it whatsoever.

These divisions are relatively transparent and clear but I think the numbers are less apparent so it's difficult to identify clear numbers and statistics there. Anyway, these divisions are as follows:

1) Democrats who approve and support the status quo - Biden win, but want or expect certain policies
2) Far Left - glad Trump is out but may protest and riot depending... have demands
3) Republicans - don't want to be associated with Trump and ready to become opposition to Biden
4) Republicans - loyal to and support Trump - perceive election as stolen; election fraud
5) Right Wingers - perceive corruption, Trump selling out, being weak and Democrats as stealing the election
6) Far Right - against both parties; perceive "Democracy" as fake and in name only.

These divisions are quite fractured and although some groups might be able to have some meetings of the minds, most are too different and divided to find common ground. (IMHO).

I would have told Biden to take good care of himself, so that the woman he selected as VP for us, does not become president. Personally, I think that he (Biden) picked her as insurance against being impeached, or being asked to leave due to health problems.

It would have been much better to reduce it slowly rather than stop it completely. It’s not like people will suddenly switch to environmental friendly options quickly. The price of an EV is still too expensive for an average person to afford.

The best way I reckon they should have done this is to slowly stop accepting new applicants for jobs in the oil industry and trying to get applicants to apply for environmental friendly jobs so that it’s a slow rollout but making sure that most people don’t lose their jobs.

 

It’s not like Biden shut down the entire sector, his plan is to phase out fossil fuels over 10-20 years.

You could follow some of Norway's policies by subsidising purchases of EVs and give the owners of them some special privileges to encourage everyone to buy an electric car, which will then strengthen the EV industry and should create some new jobs:

The fact that you could probably buy that car and then have shipped here for less than you would just buy a car here is kinda sad. You could literally give every American with a license one if you wanted to.

 

EVs are way too expensive in New Zealand. We don’t get any subsidies for buying EVs which is a shame. I hope the NZ Government starts offering incentives for owning an EV as this will definitely speed up the process of lowering emissions.
