      Hi friends,

I live in the great white north and have struggled with sinus issues for decades. This is my first winter with tinnitus and its been up and down. I was having a great week, my tinnitus was very quiet until my sinuses started acting up yesterday because of a cold front. I woke with loud tinnitus and it settled after using my Avamys nasal spray. As the day has gone on its gotten slightly louder but not unbearable. I did a NeilMed sinus rinse an hour ago and now my sinuses are extremely sensitive and the ringing has gone crazy.

Has anyone ever had tinnitus increase from sinus rinse or is this just from the sinuses being over sensitive right now?

Not exactly from sinus rinse but from Neti pot. But in my case I let the water get into middle ear and made it worse by trying valsalva maneuver to get rid of it.

Did your spike from the saline spray go down? How long did that take?

Any more data on this? I’m considering trying it because of ETD or possible patulous Eustachian tube issue.

No I haven't. I do the saline rinses a lot too because of my allergies (I suspect it's dust mites).

Sorry to hear that your tinnitus is acting up. Could you possibly have a cold or something? Just make sure in the future if you do the sinus rinse not to blow your nose too hard because water can go into your ear. Just one nostril at a time, and gently.

Saline rinse itself hasn't given me any problem, but I did experience a worsening in one ear when I did the Valsalva with the saline rinse in my sinuses. I too was suspecting ETD and read that lightly doing a Valsalva to get the solution into the Eustachian tube. I felt instant pressure and pain when it happened.

So I think saline rinse is fine, but don't create any pressure within the ear while doing it.

I use the saline nose spray. I haven’t had any problems.
