Also, I would like to mention to @ZFire how impressed I am with his knowledge of our British history. As a historian, of sorts, this brings me much joy.

I learn quite a bit of British history back in college (university). It was a comparative politics course where I spent the whole semester mostly learning about the government of the UK and how it differs to the US government (very different!). But I had to learn some British history to understand how your constitutional monarchy came to be. Interesting stuff I must say.

In Australia, we are a monarchy but already there is a lot of talk about becoming a republic. The coverage here has been massive but for me, it isn't even an issue I particularly care about.

Oh no, it's nothing like that. It's just a silly meme that uses cringey photos to make a point about kids these days by roasting today's generation. The photo is juxtaposing a representation of masculinity from the past (left picture) with one from the present (right picture). The second picture is using dog facial filters found in social media apps (Snapchat, Instagram, etc). It's used in a ironic way.

Yeah I have seen another one with a Steve McQueen type guy on a cool Harley Davidson bike and next to it a geeky young man in torn jeans on a skateboard - and "what went wrong?" motto. I have to say - it does make me laugh, though I was more like the skinny youth on a skateboard than McQueen on a bike. But then I was an awkward unsure teen in the punk rock era, not a 60s cool dude.

I was big fan of wrestling too. The Attitude Era pretty much defined my childhood. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The ROCK were my guys.

I take it you and @Wrfortiscue were a part of "golden era" of wrestling. People like Hogan, Roddy Piper, Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, etc. Legendary.

This year we grew potatoes, onions, lots of different beetroot and lettuce. We also had raspberries, black and redcurrants, gooseberries, plums, nectarines, apples.

I'll attach some pictures.

You're very lucky to have access to an allotment. I'm on the waiting list in our village but it looks like it'll be the next century before one comes available. Until then I try and make the most of our small back garden.

This year grew tomatoes, wild-strawberry, raspberry (first and second year variety (gonna let the second year fruit next year then take the canes out and stick with the first year)), courgette, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and lemon verbena (highly recommended for tea).

Am about to plant some Mr Fothergill's autumn variety broad beans in a small raised bed, which going into next year, will have on constant rotation. Haven't quite decided what to grow after that but am thinking sweetcorn.

I'm attempting to educate myself on stuff like companion planting, and ideally want to be able to store and use seeds, which I think is a lost art definitely worth engaging. BTW - it's great you're growing redcurrants. I'm going to add blueberries to the garden but will have them in pots side-by-side to cross-pollinate.

Project after that is to try and dig a bore-hole but am having trouble getting Mrs UKB to agree to it!

Yep, definitely the golden era, about the mid 80s. Fun times.

My tinnitus has been SO bad this past week. It actually kept my awake last night. Such a loud shrill chirping sound. Usually that tone settles down. But after my stepdad dropped that 6 pint bottle of milk onto the wooden floor - it hasn't gone away. Think it's another permanent tone. Looks like I'll be using sound enrichment again for a while.

Saw a post online where someone quipped there was reluctance to replace the queen's head with the new king's head on cash as banknotes had been full of "charlie" for years.

The stunner was such a great move. It was fast, impactful, and at that time unique. The Rock was overselling there, they would joke around to see who can sell it the most ridiculously way lol. I think Austin laughed one time because the Rock just went too far haha. Scott hall sold it pretty good too.

I'm only 35 so didn't catch too much of the 80s or early 90s, but I was a huge wrestling fan back in the day. Would watch vintage clips and I loved the Hulkster, Roddy, Razor, Andre, Savage, Flair and Bret Hart. Of course I saw some of these guys in WCW later on. WOOO.

@UKBloke & @El BUZZ, we had stopped during our 4 hour mountain walk, taking pictures of the deer that were everywhere, when this one walked right up to us. Our friend giving him a piece of apple, sitting completely still.

I ain't no Royalty fan, well why should I be? I grew up in the republic... but long story short, during the lockdown I chanced upon this book with the name: "That Woman" by Anne Sebba... all about Wallis Simpson and King Edward the 8th, the lad who had to abdicate back in the 1930s.

The author more than implies that Wallis Simpson was a hermaphrodite, God bless her (i.e. born both male and female).

King Edward was a keen fan of der Groesste Feldherr aller Zeiten and Churchill believed that he was passing sensitive military material on to Adolf and/or his team. Wallis was a strict disciplinarian and if his majesty were to transgress, he would come to feel it as she was quite dexterous with the cane.

They settled in the South of France after the war and had two dogs, who they treated as equals at the dinner table.

The royals never forgave them and kept them at a distance (on a few hundred grand sterling p.a.)

Wallis received the title of "That Woman" from the other royalty.

Much has been said against them, but even their detractors testify that ex-King Edward was deeply attached to her right up to his last moments. She is buried along side him ummm... I forget where. Somewhere in England.

One thing that I gleaned from the book is the almost Rock-Star atmosphere of adulation and reverence for the royal circle which existed at that time. Not much of that left nowadays (smile).

If you do get the book, keep a notebook of all the names and positions of all those who crop up. It gets hard to follow even though there's an index of sorts.

Aaaah, El Buzz, do you really take your ham and eggs along with Japanese tea? I get the impression that it has more to do with relaxing in an atmosphere of calm awareness etc., etc.

For me, supporting royalty plays in the same league as saying white people are superior to the rest of the races (which I wouldn't be surprised if @ZFire did and could even try to justify elaborating "arguments" he has read somewhere and now repeats like a parrot).

Supporting royalty is acting like if there were people out there superior to the rest of us just because they have born in a particular place. The rest of us have to struggle financially while they live a life of outrageous privileges. And that's just the peak of the iceberg when it comes to royalty outrageous existence. Again, just because they have born in a certain place. Just like racism. You support inequality and disguise it with pathetic folkloric propaganda. A nation doesn't need a family of filthy inbred scavengers to function.

I take my tea because I like it, nothing to do with any other stuff like zen vibes or that kind of things.

And no ham for me, I just eat grass fed ruminants meat. That and eggs, raw honey, organs (lots of liver, spleen, heart, kidneys), raw diary and loads of seasonal fruit. Very exceptionally I eat any other stuff.
