This is actually the biggest reason people modify their exhaust -- to minimize the chances of a car not seeing them at all and erasing them from the world.

This guy is a dick and shouldn't have a license.

There are plenty of examples of bad behavior in those videos, and I certainly won't defend any of it. I will point out that people do lots of terrible things in cars, too - as a (bicycle) rider, cars generally alarm me more than motorcycles.

Had more encounters with loud bikes today. I had to stop my bike by the road and cover my ears, sure makes cycling a chore. And they come up so fast too, I heard it coming and though I had time to take the next turn and avoid the motorbike but I was on an uphill and there was no chance. Of course the asshole had to rev it up to maximum as he flew past. There goes my day again.

I don't normally complain about this stuff, but some jackass passed me, saw me plugging my ears, turned around and opened it up right next to me. This was obviously on purpose, not sure if he thought I was trying to send a message or be rude by holding my ears, but it obviously pissed him off enough to get me the second time he passed.

I know this is an old thread. But I genuinely fucking hate motorcycles!

I don't understand. Do they not understand that they are being loud as fuck or are they actually that deaf??? They seriously fucking annoy me! Everytime a loud bike revs and rides past me, it annoys me to the core!

Yes! I hate them with a passion. The other night at work, multiple bikers were doing laps as loud as they could. The noise, even being in a building, was horrendous. I was very glad when they pissed off!

I have a bigger problem with airplanes than motorbikes. Noisy airplanes often linger for long periods of time as they "sight see" over an area, whereas motorbikes tend to be gone much sooner. I hope a day comes where there will be a greater awareness of the dangers and detrimental effects of noise pollution, and appropriate laws and regulations be put in place to limit it.

I'm less bothered by motorcycles and planes than trains. I live one mile away from a train station, with several other train crossings nearby, and the trains are required to sound their horns before passing each location. They start at 3 AM and continue through the day and trains will sound their horn intermittently for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. Not such a problem during the winter with the windows closed, but God help me in the summer.

Here in California nearly all motorcycles far exceed legal noise limits for motor vehicles. The police do not enforce excessive noise from cycles. The motorcycles are the worst noise polluters in the city, you can hear them above all urban noise from miles distant. A local neighborhood Harley rider seems to enjoy gunning the throttle in neutral to set off all the car alarms as he departs in the morning. They fly past you on the freeways near red line on the sport bikes and your mind is temporarily shattered.

I drive a nice silent EV, it is a joy.

These people ride in 110 dB wind on 130 dB motorcycles with no helmets or hearing protection and never get tinnitus.

I would never wish tinnitus on anyone, but it does just seem so unfair, doesn't it.

I live in London, so have to hear absolute dickheads on motorbikes (and also in modified cars) nearly every day. It just reeks of insecurity having to travel around making that much noise.

Oh yeah, they know it. They love to do that! Of course, this depends. I had semi loud pipes on my high performance street bikes, but didn't want to get hard on the throttle unless I was racing someone because the cops hear this too.

I don't buy the idea that people make their bikes loud to avoid people running into them. That's not much good if you're just sitting at a red light or stop sign and someone in a car mows you down from behind because "I didn't see the motorcycle". Every year in Daytona Beach during Bike Week or Biketoberfast this happens, sometimes multiple times. Usually kills the motorcyclists, and the car driver always gets off w/ a minor ticket.

Four years of those bike meets ran me out of there when upwards of 100,000 bikers showed up, and the police are OK w/uncapping the pipes because the city makes a lot of money off them. It's constant, deafening noise from about 3 PM to 2 or 3 AM for weeks.

Okay, so I have a question that is sort of relevant to high wind noises from riding motorcycles.

I am an avid fisherman and normally don't go faster than 45 mph on my boat rides, but of course I haven't gone boating since getting tinnitus.

How can I block out the wind noises when I go fishing? To me earplugs and earmuffs wouldn't suffice as you would still be able to hear the wind.

This is, ironically, what kickstarted my tinnitus when I was around 45. I was commuting home on my bone stock Yamaha and just as I was pulling away from the light when a Harley split past me. He looked at me, I glanced at him and he rev bombed me. He twisted the throttle at least three times with an extremely loud pipe.

I heard a faint eeeee when I got home; this started my life with Mr. T.

I think the best would be some form of double protection. Sound from the wind being picked up by the earmuffs will be blocked/muffled by the earplugs underneath.
