Tinnitus Since
05/2017 (H since 06/2017)
Cause of Tinnitus
long term noise exposure (headphones), maybe some stress.
Anyone else get these??

I have had a few of these nightmares where I dream I am suddenly in a place with very loud noise or music from which I can't escape and I make my tinnitus worse :( They are quite uncomfortable....had one last night.

Thinking if this is normal to have these nightmares.

I haven't seen this subject discussed that much over the years, so it's a good topic you started, however on a personal note, it fascinates me how I haven't seen one single dream ever where I've had tinnitus, let alone felt distressed about it.

This for a guy who has nearly unmaskable tinnitus and is severely impacted by it in the day-to-day life.

I must confess @TheDanishGirl this is a new one on me. In the 21 years that I've had tinnitus. Even in the days when my hyperacusis was very severe I have never dreamt or had nightmares about tinnitus or loud noise. Hopefully this will go in time in fact I'm sure it will as you're making progress. Try and forget it and not to give it importance if possible.

Wow, that is actually quite amazing but it must feel good to have a 100% tinnitus free dreams, i used to have tinnitus free dreams up until a couple of weeks ago and i loved that......i felt like my dreams/my sleep were my quiet sacred place.

Guess not anymore :(

Really? I though it was maybe common to experience but i guess maybe not. Hope they subside soon.

I had these dreams about T in my first year after onset, now my dreams usually do not include tinnitus. If any, I have dreams that I am tinnitus free and fully happy again (not that I feel totally unhappy now, the level of happiness dropped but I still live my life the best I can).

Nice to hear that you only experience them in the beginning.....hope it will be the same for me.
Sending you happy thoughts :)

Dont know how to feel about experiencing this then. Makes me a little uneasy.

Stress feeds tinnitus and tinnitus feeds stress. The more importance you attach to the dream that you had it's likely it might happen again. I know it's not easy but try to divert your thoughts onto other things that you like doing or used to do before the onset of tinnitus. If you drink, a glass of wine can do wonders during the evening. A glass of brandy or wine, for medicinal purposes during the evening used to help me immensely. Helped calm the stress and I slept peacefully. Try it.

Thanks for the advice. I have never been a heavy drinker but i like a few glasses of wine every now and then. 1 glass of wine in the evening sounds good.

It is very hard to not stress about the T, VERY much i must admit as i have a worrying, easily stressed personality. Trying my best to not think to much about it.

Tinnitus is not an easy condition to manage @TheDanishGirl in the early stages. With respect I think you are expecting too much of yourself. I feel you've come quite a way as I remember the way you were not so long ago and no doubt you do too. Be pleased with yourself is my advice. Even if you wake up one day and you're not feeling that great due to the tinnitus, just know and keep in your mind things are progressing steadily. Have a drink with friends if possible and go out and have a nice time, as this is all part of the healing process.

You are absolutely right! I have never been satisfied with my progress in any aspect of life, i do except to much of myself. But i try to remind myself that i have made progress in terms of dealing with the T, and that is in a fairly short time, and that is a very positive thing which i should focus on.
Thank you for the encouraging words, much appreciate it :)

I was once in a very similar position as you so I know how it feels. It was people that had tinnitus for many years helped to keep me on track and not be too hard on myself. As I said a drink or two in the evening works wonders. Believe me....

Not yet any dreams about tinnitus.
A few dreams about my hearing loss. Being very distressed (nightmare) about not being able to understand people.
Isolation...

Are you on anti depressants by any chance? I am, and the dreams, they are so vivid. I wake up with sweats, it's like watching a movie when I'm asleep, and yes, I have nightmares over tinnitus.

Michael, can I ask you a question? I've seen a lot of posts from you and I find everything you say very informative and very supportive. You seem like a really nice guy. However, you hold your confidence in recovery to TRT, and claim you are an ex sufferer so to speak. But I notice you late at night or early in the mornings as well as taking part in research forum topics. My question is why if you are healed so to speak? I habituated many years ago, and couldn't leave quick enough, however a recent increase caused me a relapse.

I do have the upmost respect for you and found your article very interesting. Top man.

I've had this a couple of times! In my nightmares I wasn't a specific place, I sort of remember it as laying in bed exactly where I was sleeping. It was just having the loudest ringing ever imaginable, like being in the middle of a jet engine or something. So loud that it drowned out my vision.

Then I woke up and the ringing went back to "normal everyday annoyance", but it was scary to go back to sleep again.

Nightmares usually come from subjects/issues that are either deeply impacting us or have been impacting us in our lives. Since your tinnitus is very new and is impacting you, there is no surprise that you are having these dreams/nightmares.

That makes sense ;)

HI @Paulmanlike

Thank you for your kind words and your respect they are much appreciated. Forgive me for saying so: If I understand you correctly, are you asking me, if I have recovered from tinnitus why do I continue to visit this forum? Late at night or early hours in the morning? Well, I didn't know I was being monitored so will have to be more careful in future. Indeed I have fully habituated to my tinnitus and it is variable in intensity. From silent, mild, moderate and severe. If people like me didn't visit this forum there would be no-one to help others in distress with their tinnitus. I visit other tinnitus forums not just Tinnitus Talk.

I was helped many years ago with my tinnitus in a forum similar to this one by people that had the condition for many years. I feel compelled in some way to give something back and to help others, for I know how distressing this condition can be. It is for this reason I spent many months writing my article: Tinnnitus, A Personal View. I had a lot of difficulty writing it as my tinnitus was so intrusive. There are other people like me that visit here to help others and don't have to call names but they know who they are and I'm sure that you do. It's like saying, why do some people do charity work volunteer or become a philanthropist? I don't know the reason I suppose one just gets the calling to do so.
Hope I have answered your question.
Thanks again for your kind words.
All the best
Michael

Thank you Michael.

I had these dreams since I first got T. Some of the nightmares have come true :( In most of my dreams, I don't have tinnitus and I'm happy and care-free. It's depressing when I wake up and hear the ringing and realize it's still there.
