The update would be that I haven't stopped eating 8 bananas per day, like I said I would.

Yesterday had my first loud fleeting tinnitus episode (started by vacuum cleaner) since I started going bananacrazy.

Keep in mind: I used to have very frequent bouts of fleeting tinnitus multiple times a day. That subsided when I started eating bananas. So quite disappointed that it came back yesterday, of course. But I'm trying to keep my cool and not get anxious too much.

So far my days go by without too much worry about tinnitus, which is already a big change. Again, main reason = Deanxit. Bananas MAY contribute.

Soon I'll have to stop taking Deanxit... I'm already bracing myself for impact.

My appetite is so low I couldn't get through 8 bananas per day. I might be able to manage 2. Not sure if it would help.

Nope - that's all normal, but thanks for asking - I do pee more than usual because of the higher liquid intake (shakes).

When will you quit Deanxit or taper to see if this lasts?

In 1 week I'll start tapering (I'm still eating 6 to 8 bananas per day).

It would be interesting to get a vitamin panel done after your banana diet. I bet your Potassium levels are off the charts! :-D

Are you still doing the Banana regime? If so, has it had any effect?

Lately I have been having fleeting tinnitus episodes (2 a day in both ears)... I have absolutely NO clue why they started now (after having chronic tinnitus for 1 year).

Let's just say I've come to a point where I'm teaching my brain to believe in fairy tales.

The fairy tale being here: fleeting tinnitus is just the brain trying to repair itself (as has been said here on a few occasions)... after a year that seems weird of course... but what else am I supposed to do, re-introduce panic mode?

Also, yes, I'm still starting every day with 5 bananas in a shake (that's my breakfast) - it keeps me filled until 1 pm > light snack > 6 pm dinner.

Too many bananas. I also learned recently that bananas are a berry and blackberries and raspberries are not.

My tinnitus is still the most quiet it has ever been since onset 12 months ago. My tinnitus is still reactive with some sort of schhhhhhhhh on top of radio / music and right now, as I m sitting in a quiet room with only the ventilation system running very much in the background my tinnitus is a very low volume (in my experience) tv static. The static does have a high end that is more like a soft eeeee than a schhhhh, but well, to be honest I'm not even sure what loudness my tinnitus is at, compared to others here.

Tl;dr: on the bananas: I still contribute most of the heavy lifting to Deanxit. I can't wait to quiet Deanxit (because I can't take it forever).

I truly don't know if the bananas are contributing, but I kept on doing a banana shake for breakfast because I like it / makes me lose corona weight / maybe it helps tinnitus, who knows.

The real test would be if I quit bananas, but I'm not planning to, for now.

The one ingredient in Deanxit, Flupentixol would make my tinnitus go away completely if I took it at 2 mg three days in a row. When I woke up the fourth day, it would be gone. It was magic. I've done it several times and it worked like clockwork.

Then of course I tried to take it regularly since it had such effect, but then like many other meds it did not work in the long run. A slight change for the better perhaps. I took it for about a year also to aid benzo withdrawal.

It can be a bitch to get off, so make sure you taper.

This thread makes me feel bananas.

Seriously though, to add, I have recently changed out table salt for NuSalt (potassium chloride). It doesn't make or break my problem, but there's definitely an average difference when I eat a ton of salt vs minimal salt and potassium.

If you try this, be careful and do the math on daily allowances.

Does this help your hyperacusis? How much do you reduce your salt intake to see an improvement?

If you are going to eat 800 calories a day worth of bananas, you might as well turn them into banana "ice cream" by freezing them and putting them in the food processor. It's good stuff. Maybe swirl in some peanut butter.

Seriously, there's probably something to the Potassium, but wouldn't it be easier to just take a Potassium supplement or drink some water mixed with cream of tartar? Cream of tartar has about 500 mg Potassium per teaspoon.

Or better yet get a drug / supplement which activates Potassium receptors instead of relying on brute forcing concentration.

I cannot help thinking of how bananas are a natural source of radiation. At 56 bananas a week, you would be getting the equivalent radiation level of one dental X-ray each week.

Not really. It doesn't really do that much. I think a lot more of it is the change from salt to potassium. I love salt so this change allows me to enjoy food approximately the same (it is a little less appealing than salt), but with benefits.

If it's not the added potassium that helps and rather the low salt diet, Benson's salt substitute tastes a lot better than potassium chloride (which is really bitter to me).
