  • This is my first spike since "the kiss" w/ loss of appetite, nausea, facial pain. I've felt terrible these past few days
    Juliane
So sorry for you. Do you know what caused your spike?
    Theezy
I partially held in a sneeze on accident and it affected my right ear. Other loud incidents haven't caused lasting worsenings, but everything has gone to a new level these past days somehow from this
    Juliane
I am sorry this had to happen to you again. I hope for all the best for you
Hi Theezy, do you experience pain with your H?
    Theezy
Yes definitely. It can be pretty severe for a few days to week after sound incidents. If I'm able to have a good week without any harsh noises, my ears seem to settle down quite a bit, and I'll be pretty much pain free. Of course the usual T and H never goes away completely
    GG_Ear
@Theezy Thank you for your reply. What is a harsh noise for you? For me it's people talking loud, objects clacking/banging in kitchen, stiff plastic rustling, dogs barking, kids screaming, street traffic... my partner honked his nose suddenly once and that was bad too! haha
    GG_Ear
@Theezy Have you got any sort of treatment plan to help improve your symptoms?
@Theezy sounds like you have made a little progress. My T is less reactive. I think just being outdoors helps. We need some exposure to sound but not too much. I have been taking Panax Korean Ginseng which may be helping a bit too.
Hi @Theezy how are you? My tinnitus had continued to worsen unfortunately. Hope you are doing better.
    Theezy
Hey good to hear from you! Sorry, I took a long break from this site. I feel I took the edge off the H a tiny bit by getting outside to the backyard and woods a bit this summer (still pretty much housebound), but the T is relentless and only seems capable of worsening. Have you tried anything new recently? What's your regular sound exposure like?
Hi @Theezy How are you doing now?
    Theezy
I've been able to enjoy summer a bit by getting outside to the backyard and woods. However, the T still quickly goes nuclear if I have any sound slip ups, and it continues slowly worsens over weeks/months. Unfortunately, it seems I was dealt a difficult case, but I hold onto hope. How are you doing?
How does one get out of the vicious cycle of worsening T and H? As it gets worse it takes less to worsen again. Going on 7 months now

@4Grace - I did, 44 years of stability going to many festivals, concerts, cinema, gigs etc... not a single change in tinnitus no matter what I did - whereas now its highly reactive to everything - so yes it is possible but it just depends on the individual
    4Grace
@DeanD Thanks DeanD - I thought that was the case. I asked because I thought some people must just not care about the noise. 44 years no change. Wow if I had to have this thing I so wish mine was like that..
    DeanD
@4Grace - Having lived with this all my life, and in almost every form now, I do think it is easier managing reactive mild tinnitus than stable severe tinnitus. I never cared about the noise because I could mask it, do everything and tbh it wasn't too bad a sound (chirping). Often people say loudness is everything, but I think the tone and loudness together matter a great deal.
Love you brother. Hope you can bounce back. My shit is wrecked !
    Theezy
Love you to brother. Had an ok week last week but now feeling worse than ever again. Such a brutal trajectory, and it's been trending to the bottom for 7 months now (technically 7 years but the pace used to be more gradual). Somehow I still keep going. I truly hope we can find our way out of this bottomless pit somehow
Hyperacusis is actually slightly better. Tinnitus is at an all time worst though. I'm living as best I can with this confusing condition.
Love you brother. Everyday is hell for me too. Tinnitus truly has no limit. Insanity.
    Theezy
I don't know what we did to deserve this. All I can hope for is that medicine understands this better in the future. What a torturous condition.
It's been a hair over 6 months since the initial big jump up. I believed it would get better, it's gotten 5-10x worse. Nightmare everyday
Wow a hard almond bite really was the largest jump in tinnitus I've had; brand new low tone like a foghorn in that ear. Started Serc
Spike from last week continues to stack, I did not think it was possible for tinnitus to get this bad. Praying betahistine does something
    BrysonKingMe
Do not take them blindly and just understand they are extremely dangerous drugs. I would advise valium, Klonopin is the worst imo
    BrysonKingMe
I don't have experiences with any ssris or any other psych meds
    BrysonKingMe
And last thing I'll add -- I am in a very similar situation as you from withdrawing from benzos, and I took them for 6.5 months and spent 6.5 months tapering. Still got burned
My tinnitus keeps worsening too. I'm thinking of stopping mirtazapine and sleeping tabs to see if it improves. I don't know what to do anymore. My head is full of intense noises. This has sucked the life out of me. Gone downhill since covid in October last year and that noisy ENT test. Had tinnitus for 13 years but never anything like as bad as this. Let us know how you are doing. Holding onto hope for us all.

@4Grace I avoid loud places and situations, where possible, such as dogs barking. If unavoidable I wear discreet earplugs. I continue to go to work in an office, go on hols and do most things normal folk do but it can take its toll on you. I outright avoid certain things.
    4Grace
Thanks - my ear plugs are impossible. The noise super loud with them on. I am extremely distressed. Missing things makes worse. I'm doing nothing!
    4Grace
I can sleep. I was hoping mert helped with the depression and anxiety?
Worse again, hearing swirling electricity, screeching, cicadas, and a low rumbling all throughout my head
    CRGC
Sorry to hear man, hang in there! Thinking of you often, hope you start getting some improvement/stabilization soon ❤️
Been staying strong but today it's a bit too much. Tinnitus has ramped up a ton this week, baseline constantly worsening. My head is full.
Theezy, how are you doing? Your posts made my heart go out to you. My tinnitus is worsening too. I don't like to express too many negative thoughts on the forum in case it hinders others but I am really struggling to exist these days. I hang on for my amazing wife and two daughters and as a Christian I think suicide is wrong but I am not sure how much longer I can bear. Let me know how you are doing.
    Theezy
Hey thanks for your message. Unfortunately the tinnitus has continued worsening regardless of what I do. The only factor that clearly and consistently makes it worse is excessive sound (doesn't take much). I try to keep as much sound exposure as I can comfortably handle through low level tv, podcasts, and quiet conversation so my sound tolerance doesn't collapse completely.
    Theezy
It really feels nearly impossible to go on some (maybe most) days, but I'm also a Christian and have family so I will keep fighting. This is so hard man, feel free to reach out anytime.
    4Grace
It's incredible how we all feel the same
If you can stay off all meds and eat as healthy as possible and control your sound environment entirely for as long as possible. I hope your reactivity goes away and you can have some normal life again. This is hell.
    ajc
Considering Travis' experience and BrysonKingMe's experience, I think you would be playing with fire testing out Klonopin. Especially since your tinnitus seems to always spike permanently even from your own cough.
    Theezy
Unfortunately that's kinda my feeling as well. I'm just feeling like I need to take drastic action somehow with how far gone it's gotten
    BrysonKingMe
@Theezy , like 1mw said, never ever take these rat posions called benzos of you want to live
My tinnitus has been getting worse almost every day for past 3 months. If anyone knows someone with a similar experience please tell me
    Nadia231
I could say I'm on the same boat. Sudden ear pressure gave me a whole day of sound distortions (luckily that subsided) and a set of new tones that keep stacking up. That was 2 months ago. Don't know what to do anymore. I'm exhausted
    volterra
    Are you taking any medication?
    Theezy
I have taken mirtazapine a couple times when I couldn't sleep at all, but it was getting worse before that and continues to get worse after. I don't see it having any effect on the T/H
Close to the end of my rope with the constant progression. What options/medications are there to try in a catastrophic situation?
    ErikaS
Can you talk to a GP or psychiatrist? As someone with reactive T and multi-tomes, I would say definitely get some Ativan for this period right now. Who cares about having to withdraw a month or so from now, you're just trying to make it to the next month.
I would also discuss an AD that could help you with sleep as well as mood stabilization.
hang in there buddy we do have some new discoveries of the inner ear, plus we got susan shore
so yeah in the mean time get you some decent hearing aids. a kiss on the ear? something is not right,
Tinnitus overall 100 percent sounds like a brain in-balance or something gone wrong.
    Theezy
Thanks for the comments. I don't even know if it was the kiss 100% that did all this. My tinnitus seemed to be slowly getting worse over the years and now it's speeding up a lot. Wish we understood more about the auditory system
    KoolKat
I really hate this happened to you. deep down im scared also for myself. since 2013 i been in this nightmare and everyday i wonder if its gonna be THAT DAY. btw mines got a little worse last year too
    KoolKat
i wonder how long these so called new inner ear discoveries will take until we get something to slay this freaking beast.
hey man you need to get hearing aids, and get an audiologist to help you. what happened to you is my worse nightmare. they freaking sit here and tell you you get used to it etc etc and then BAM. dam i hate this happened to you, we both got tinnitus around the same time/ it proves my point that tinnitus isnt something you just learn to freaking live with.
Any improvement? I'm having a terrible spike…hope it's not my new baseline. I'm so sorry you're suffering. I do believe it will improve over time. Big hugs
    Theezy
Thanks for asking, mine has not been doing well. It's been super reactive to sound. I'm going to take some time off work and take things real easy to see if my ears can settle down
By the way do you experience an increase of your old tinnitus tones? Or do u also have new tones?
    Theezy
Both, more like an increasing of my old tones with some morphing of tones mixed in
Hi Theezy, i think the only remedy is time for now. Its pretty weird that T can worsen after a kiss near the ear. Seems like a domino effect with some incidents made it worse. I think we dont know for sure the relation between stress and the fysical impact on the ears, like making it more vulnerable for some normal loud noise exposure??
    Theezy
It's crazy, this condition has been so hard to figure out and very unforgiving. Working on taking things easy and letting my body heal
    J
My T is also reactive, figuring out if stress is the major big cause, with use of earplugs. Seems that after wearing them your ears cant cope with louder sounds.
Hey I also saw your post too and I'm sorry to hear about your current situation. I'm also going through a very bad time and I know how soul crushing it can be. There is always a chance for even the worst cases to improve though.Just be extra careful to stay away from noise while you're still in the acute stage after a setback and you should get at least a little better eventually even if it takes a few months.
    Theezy
Thank you these first two weeks have been very frustrating. its alternated between bad days and really bad days. And today seems to be worse than ever. I'm still hopeful it goes down, but it's hard to think that I was already struggling with my T of 7 years and I can only hope it gets back close to those levels. Thank you for the comment, I appreciate it.
    SmallRonnie
No problem, I know it's tough. The time after it worsens is definitely the most difficult. I've been going through a setback myself this past month and it's horrible. Chances are it should get somewhat better over time even if it does take a long time.
I saw your post. I dont have much advise, but I feel very sorry for you. Im currently through hell as well, lost several kgs in week. What helps me is my family and friend, who cares for me so I dont feel all alone. Really hoping for your recovery.
    Theezy
Thank you I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing something similar. Family and friends are so important during these times, I'm incredibly grateful for them. I'm hoping the best for you too!
    Theezy
How are you doing these days? Unfortunately mine has been going the wrong direction. This has been the hardest time of my life, but I'm still here
    Eliska
Hi Theezy, thank you for asking and sorry for late answer. I try to limit my time in here. I'm doing little better, but I got new tone to my previously good ear and some dizziness. Don't know if it was because of the stress or neck issues. Im trying to outlast this. Hang in there, I believe it will get better for you! We need to endure it somehow and hope for healing or habituation.
